In Mail the bar at the bottom of the inbox window won't drag up to allow the content of the selected message to be shown without double clicking to open it in a separate window. Any thoughts about that?

In Mail the bar at the bottom of the inbox window won't drag up to allow the content of the selected message to be shown without double clicking to open it in a separate window. Any thoughts about that? I cannot find anything in the preferences that relates. The ability to drag the bar just seems to have become stuck.

iMac (24-inch Mid 2007), OS X Yosemite (10.10.5)

I'm amused that the reigniting of this discussion has only been brought to my notice as of yesterday. Thanks. It was "going to the innards" in the Library, as in "~Library", that sorted the problem, and I just had to reinstate my Move button in the Customise Toolbar Preferences pane, as it had disappeared for some reason.
