attempting to select text causes Safari to select lots more

On an application I use, after I believe the update to 9.0.2 a week or two ago, when I position the cursor to then select some text, Safari now goes from the point I select down to the bottom and selects all of it. I have no control - I used to do this just fine in Safari. Selecting some text works fine on this site using Chrome or Firefox. I even updated to El Capitain thinking that the OS had something to do with it, but the problem still exists. I don't believe the site changed the way its editor works, but I can't be sure. They of course tell me it's a Safari problem especially since selecting text works in another browser

Anybody have a similar problem with some sites

MacBook Pro (15-inch 2.4/2.2 GHz), OS X Yosemite (10.10)

Go step by step and test.

1. Disable Extensions and test.

Safari > Preferences > Extensions

Uncheck boxes beside “Enable Extension” and test.

Enable Extensions one by one and test.

To uninstall any extension, select it and click the “Uninstall” button.

2. Delete Caches

Close all windows and quit all applications.

Hold "option" key down and click "Go" menu in the Finder menu bar.

Select "Library" from the dropdown.

Library > Caches > com.apple.Safari

Right click the com.apple.Safari file and select "Move To Trash.

3. Delete com.apple.Safari.plist file and test.

Empty the Trash.

Quit all applications.

Hold the option key down and click the "Go" menu in the Finder menu bar.

Select "Library" from the drop down.

Library > Preferences > com.apple.Safari.plist

Right click on it and select "Move it to Trash".

Restart. Relaunch Safari.

If this doesn’t help, “Put Back” the com.apple.Safari.plist

Right click on the Trash icon in the Dock and select “Open”.

Right click on the com.apple.Safari.plist and select “Put Back”.
