ios 9.2 GPS Problems

iPhone 5s

ios 9.2

GPS tracking error

As soon as I upgraded to ios 9.2 last week I noticed that all of my Map Apps were having difficulties pointing to my exact GPS location, be it Waze, Google Maps or even the default Apple Maps. I cannot find a solution to this.

I cannot even seem to downgrade back to ios 9.1.

I use maps everyday! So I could a solution to this problem as soon as possible.

Thanks Apple Community.

Just wanted to add that my iphone 6 is also unable to get a GPS signal This started recently after an IOS update.. AND yes, I'm outside with no obstructions to the GPS satellite. I've also tried all the usual solutions, resets etc. with zero success. I've now given up and switched to using my ipad in the car for GPS. I find it remarkable that there is zero response from Apple on this subject.

My visit to apple store was not useful either. He did the same things which I have done at home. He doesn't have anything to test the hardware so he couldn't tell if its an hardware issue. He reset the phone using iTune and told me to wait until 48 hours, as location services takes this long to reset !!! (really... in this age when it takes 32 minutes to get signal from MARS; and standard GPS can take max of 12.5 minutes to lock all GPS satellites... iphone location services takes 48 hours to restore !! )

Anyway.. conclusion so far is that I am stuck with the phone without GPS. I am going to use an old iPhone 5s until next iOS Patch will come out and may be that it will fix the issues.. If its hardware issue.. then only solution is to get a new phone. Or they can give you credit for your devices.. off course in this condition it will not be more than $100.

Ditto to everyone else's complaints with my iPhone 6.

GPS unusable, never locks on to my location (Waze, Apple Map, Google Map).

Wifi has also become unstable, constantly disconnecting from our home wifi despite being in the same room with the router......

Tried all the suggested fixes....even wiped the phone....nothing.

**** I'm sooooo disappointed, I use the map all the time....guess I'll have to make an appointment at the Apple Store, but my Apple Care is up, so I doubt they're going to do much for me.

<<sigh>> NEVER going to update my phone again.

Looks like I am not the only one having GPS problems. This has become so FRUSTRATING! Not exactly sure when the issue started because it didn't happen very often so I thought it was an isolated issue. So, I simply reset my iPhone 6 and that usually fixed it. But now this happens all the time and resetting my iPhone doesn't do anything. I also have an Apple Watch and I've noticed (along the same time frame) my Apple Watch intermittently showing its disconnected from my iPhone. My iPhone would be sitting right next to my watch so I know it's not a Bluetooth range issue. Don't know if these issues are related but they seem to have started around the same time. This thread has nearly 5,000 views and 50 replies so....HEY APPLE, THIS IS NOT AN ISOLATED PROBLEM! THIS GPS PROBLEM IS AFFECTING MANY IPHONE USERS SO PLEASE ADDRESS THE ISSUE AND FIX IT...OR, AT THE VERY LEAST, SHOW SOME EFFORT AND LET US KNOW YOU ARE WORKING ON IT!!

On a side note...isn't it funny how these iphones "typically" work just fine for the first 18 months!?!?! My experience is the issues start coming out of the woodworks at months 20-24, which is when most contracts/payment plans expire. Coincidence? Maybe...

For your information, I tried installing IOS 9.3 public beta on my iphone 5s, but my GPS still doesn't work. Unfortunately, my device is out of warranty with Apple, but as I bought it used just two months ago, the vendor is going to replace my GPS without any cost.

I'm not sure if it's a software or a hardware problem, so maybe this will not fix the issue, but at least I'll try everything before buying a new one.

I am not sure if this solve who have the issued with the GPS, but I was able to solved my gps issued.

my sympthon was, I was able to play game or browsing(my carrier is AT&T) (Iphone 6 with iOS 9.2.1), however when I am trying to use waze, google maps, and maps the gps is not working. my waze is always constantly show "No GPS. Showing apprixmate location"

I have tried these steps:

Settings > Privacy > Location Services (switch it off and on)

Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings

and the result is same and it wont solve the problem.

but after I try these below steps, somehow now I am able to use my GPS(Waze, Google Maps, and Maps) all of them works fine.

- Take the sim card out of my Iphone

- Settings > Privacy > Location Services to "off"

- Settings > FaceTime > FaceTime to "off" (before you switching it off, please take a screen shot of your setting on FaceTime or remember it)

- Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings

- After your phone boots up again, insert the sim card back to your Iphone

- Settings > Privacy > Location Services to "on"

- Settings > FaceTime > FaceTime to "on"

- Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings

after you have done this, please wait 2 - 3 hours before you try your waze, google maps, or maps.

My problem was solve after doing this, I hope this would help your problem with the GPS.

This unfortunately did not work with me either.

I am at a loss. I don't have Applecare and I JUST paid this phone off earlier this year through my carrier. I was hoping to use this phone for more than a year. I am so frustrated. I don't have the money to buy a new one for a problem out of my control...

Here's what I tried:

- roodboor's steps

- hard reboot with location services on/off

- i even turned off location services for a few days and tried rebooting

- reboot after turning off ALL apps (apple rep suggested it in another thread)

- itunes backup

The problem started with me in mid January. I can't recall if an iOS update was involved but I know the most recent one did nothing for it.

What are the chances of this being patched in an update or it's basically unfixable short of getting a new phone?

BTW, thanks for all your suggestions guys. It is, at least, a bit comforting to know that I am not alone!

DIdn't help me either. I'm in the same boat as you.

Phone paid off, out of Apple Care, and boom! Software glitch that has made my phone useless.

Took mine to the Apple Store and the repair girl I got stuck with was like 12 years old, completely unsympathetic, and clueless. Of course her solution was trade the phone in on the upgrade program, get a new one! Meh, no thanks. I'l wait a few weeks and try going back in the hope I get a better, more sympathetic person with better problem resolution skills. This girl insisted after she wiped the phone and re-installed the OS it would be fine. Yeah, nope.

Feb 13, 2016 7:59 PM in response to mrs.soulnerd

hey mrs.soulnerd,

only thing i had left to was go to the Apple Store but I can't imagine them doing more than what I have done. Most of the routine solutions is just resetting the phone anyway. I feared getting a response like you had at the Apply Store but since I have tried basically everything, I'll have to give it a shot and hope for a sympathetic person and a lucky shot of it spontaneously working again.

But yeah, I am not getting a new one through the upgrade and going thru payments again. 😟

I have been having the same GPS issues as everyone else in this thread. As I use navigation regularly I have had to use a normal navigator in my car. I have been to the apple store and they did the diagnostics which did not turn anything up. They also advised me to do a fill reset, which I did. As it is out of warranty they couldn't exchange it with out cost. They adviced me to go to Vodafone who are my provider. vodadone changed my SIM card (twice) and it is still not working. They also said that they can send it away for repair (replacement) for a charge.

It seems that the only way to fix this is to buy a new phone. It is a shame as I am only a few months out of warranty.
