GPS tracking error

As soon as I upgraded to ios 9.2 last week I noticed that all of my Map Apps were having difficulties pointing to my exact GPS location, be it Waze, Google Maps or even the default Apple Maps. I cannot find a solution to this.

I cannot even seem to downgrade back to ios 9.1.

I use maps everyday! So I could a solution to this problem as soon as possible.

Thanks Apple Community.

****READ THIS!!!****

Hey guys! So I was having the same exact problem and I kept reading through these threads only to find people telling me to do what I had already done about a thousand times with no luck: Try a hard reset, try reestablishing network connections, try a factory reset, etc.. It was so, so frustrating!

I decided to go to the Apple Store and the guys at the genius bar gave me a new phone since I was under warranty. HOWEVER, GPS stopped working on my one-day-old phone! So the next day I went back, and they ran tests, switched out my sim card, tried another factory reset, etc. to find that my GPS just wouldn't work. So they decided to give me ANOTHER new phone. And guess what? The next day GPS stopped working on my SECOND NEW PHONE! Just imagine how frustrated I was.

So I actually decided to take my phone to the engineers at the company I work for, and they asked me the simplest of questions: Have you tried using GPS without the case? (I had this little metal bumper case)

OMG...... It worked!!!!!!! Apparently, there was a metal part (I suppose) that was jamming the GPS' signal.

SO YOU GUYS, BEFORE YOU SPEND ANY MONEY, TRY USING GPS WITHOUT THE PHONE CASE!!!!!!!!!

I HOPEEEEE THIS HELPS SOMEONE.

Knocking on the phone, really? Doesn't work.

ALready had my phone put of the case waaaay earlier into this debacle, did not fix it for me.

My boyfriend was playing with my phone and we realized some other things:

  1. Apps that use GPS to locate but not give directions work fine. Examples: Facebook, Carrot weather.
  2. The compass works perfectly and locks in location every time. We double-checked the accuracy against his iPhone 5c that has no GPS issues.
  3. My phone refuses to even see our home wifi since this started either, whilst my iPad mini, his iPhone, and iPad have no issue.
  4. My phone WILL pick up wifi at other locations with no issue.
  5. Tapping the phone did nothing.
  6. Removing the case did nothing.

At this point, I'm ready to just give up and trade it in for a new one when they come out in a couple weeks. I am looking forward to the smaller size phone again as the iPhone 6 is too big one-handed for me. I'm excited it will have the fingerprint scanner and Apple Pay, I don't care about force touch at all. I can tell you this issue has taught me to NEVER EVER upgrade my phone software again. What it comes with will be what it stays with.

I went to the apple store last night and they ran diagnostics on the phone. Everything came back with a 'Passed' status. The genius was stumped and told me it would cost $300 to exchange my out of warranty phone. I'm not convinced that would even fix the issue.

Does anyone from apple actually look at these threads? As of this post, there are almost 11k views of this topic, clearly there is a bigger issue at hand. This has got to be a software issue. We shouldn't have to knock on the back of our phones and spend hours of our time restoring and resetting and testing, etc. Apple you need to recognize what a PITA this is turning out to be. Has your product quality dipped this low?

Same problem with Apple and google Maps plus I started using Runkeeper this week (weather is great on East coast, running outside) and was AMAZED to find out that my typical 2 mile run mystically morphed to 3 miles and shaved 4 minutes from my one mile time?!?!

So I've deduced on behalf of Apple the following:

1.) IOS 9.2.1 has disrupted the time / space continuum and 2 miles now equals 3 miles

2.) IOS 9.2.1 has reverse-aged me 25 years and I now run 6 minute miles again.

3.) Since all GPS Apps since upgrading are effected, IOS 9.2.1 is causing the issues.

I'm hoping for #2 but have another support call scheduled tomorrow to backup restore my device. Thankfully my warranty is still in effect until the end of the month.

Also -JRock , I'm appalled, I'm an IT architect for one of the top 3 computer manufacturers and can say that it is so blatantly obvious that the firmware is causing these issues, I'm now curious if a class-action lawsuit could be filed on behalf of those not under warranty.

Any good lawyers on this thread?

Came across an interesting discovery today.

I used my iphone (with GPS problem) with my JBL Bluetooth speaker today, which I haven't done in about 6 months. When I put my phone into my pocket, the song began to skip and crackle like something was interfering with the signal. I pulled the phone out of my pocket and the song played normal. I was able to repeat this several times with 100% similar results.

If anyone can try and repeat this I would be interested to see if they can repeat. This may point to a hardware issue in my case if the Bluetooth and GPS are on same antenna.

Just thought I would throw this out there.

I know you all think I'm joking about this....but EVERY SINGLE TIME my GPS stops working I continuously hit the back of my phone with my finger tips and shake it...the GPS will pick up and locate me!!! This has worked EVERY SINGLE TIME I HAVE DONE IT!! I don't stop doing that until the GPS picks up my location and starts working like its suppose to! I've done it probably 20-30 times and it has worked EVERY time. Sometimes it takes longer than others. But, I'm out of warranty and Apple will it do anything about this so I will continue to do this until I can afford to get a new phone. And it will not be another iPhone! This is not a joke...I am just as frustrated as you all about this!
