Oh!! thats just about 400 AED for an iPhone 6 screen repair. They charged him around 1200 AED for it. I'm gonna ask my friend to report that particular AASP. Lawsuit!!! This is exciting for me though my friend has to go through the whole legal process.

Who said anything about warranty? The phone was fixed and paid for. The issue is error 53 not whether it's under warranty or not.

The consequences should not be because of unauthorized repairs. The phone worked after repair as it should. It stopped working after the update. That should not happen. Apple repair centers are hard to find in 3rd world countries.

Wrong. It did NOT work after the unauthorized repair. The Touch ID was compromised by the unauthorized repair and was not functional.

If you're in a country where you can't get it repaired by an authorized service provider, or directly by Apple, then you should re-think your priorities when it comes to owning an iPhone. Perhaps an alternative would be a better choice for you.

Well, the whole repair tab isn't available in the apple support page for iPhones in United Arab Emirates. I guess the best place to own an iPhone is the US. Too bad for the rest of the world.

They are not killing it. You killed it when you got an unauthorized repair done to the phone. My phone updated just fine and if I broke my screen I would go and have apple fix it, not some fly by night company so I can save a few bucks.

That was some while ago, it's not in warranty now is it?

His whole problem is that the warranty was null and void once he admitted to dropping and breaking the screen. His warranty date was invalid the second he dropped and broke the phone.

Yes but it was damaged when you dropped it and accidental damage is not covered by the warranty.

Besides, it's now February 2016.

And that is how it works. You will not get a free phone just because you dropped it and broke it. That is what everyone here has been trying to tell you.

KC7GNM don't say everyone... You have missed the whole point of this post.. It is (for the 50th time) not the fact that he dropped his phone that ruined it. It's the fact that Apple recommended an update which got him stuck in error 53. When something is wrong it's wrong, and it will stay wrong no matter how many people try to divert the problem to something else or make some rediculous argument about security risk.
