Grey Lines Through Photos

Can you provide us with a screenshot of what you're seeing with the thumbnails and when you try to enlarge the image?

Select a couple of these photos and export the Original version to the desktop by using the File ➙ Export ➙ Export Unmodified Originals for X Photos... menu option.

Once on the Desktop open them with Preview and see if you get the same corruption. Another test is to drag of of the files into your browser's window and see if it appears the same or not.

IT may be a problem with the graphics card or the memory on your Mac. As a test copy the original image files of a few photos to a thumbs drive and check them on a different computer.

I did do this. It appears the same. I will have to try the thumb drive test. I opened them in Preview, Safari and Chrome just to see and it still came across. I also did an export to the desktop and one other folder on the desktop just to mix it up but I still have the same result.

I really appreciate your help. The strange thing is, it was only that week. All of my other photos from my phone are uploading properly. And one of the images in the middle of the "corrupted files" came out just fine. So out of that entire week, one photo was not corrupted. It just doesn't make sense so I figured it may be a setting that was "bumped" but I'm on a 5S so I don't have the "Live Photo" setting. I thought maybe it was a case of accidentally setting it to "Live Photo" so the upload was sketchy...but that's not my situation.

I started having a lot of photo problems when I upgraded to El Capitan. And a lot of processing troubles as well.

Did you find any solution, same happened to me also.

This happened to me as well. iPhone SE -> Photos. Luckily, only a small subset of my upload. And I think it's stopped. I worried the bad pictures are a lost cause :-(

I've recently been having this exact same problem with photos imported into Photos being corrupted by grey bars. In my case, I had the same problem on two different iPhones importing to the same computer, so it seems the problem is not with the phones.

Same issue. The worst part is having checked the "delete photos after import checkbox".

Hopefully someone will find a way to fix these files... one day.

I have this issue as well. It has corrupted photos randomly up to a year old in my library.

I am running OS Sierra. I do not have the originals as they are deleted off my device on upload and it does not happen to every photo.

I have tried all advice offered. when exported to desk top the thumbnail looks correct but if I open it or email it, I find the lines back in the image.

Appreciate any help.

I have experienced this. My photos uploaded fine from my devices, but when I was going through them, I found fifty or so ruined by grey lines going through them. I have tried everything to get the lines out, from exporting, to modifying... nothing works. The photos are ruined.

What is the issue? My library getting too big? My Mac not powerful enough? I am running Sierra and my Mac is not that old. I have sufficient hard drive space. Did I reach the end of Photos capabilities? I'd really like to know. Photos are much too precious for this to be happening. I need a system I can rely on. If Mac is no longer suitable, then I may have to return to Windows.

This issue needs to be resolved immediately.

I have the same issue - on roughly 200 photos. There doesn't seem to be a way of "uncorrupting" them. However, I have noticed that they are all from my iPhone 6, and some imported in the same period from the iPhone 5s we have are fine - no grey line. Perhaps it's the phone software, as much as photo.

If anyone does have a fix - it would be nice to know - as I don't want to risk having the same problem again.
