Grey Lines Through Photos

Just had this happen to me and lost a majority of my holiday snaps. Yes, I checked the box to delete the photos after import, which limits options considerably. I tried a bunch of apps that let you browse the device like a hard drive but I can't find the deleted photos anywhere. Unfortunately, I imported the photos before doing an iTunes sync so I don't even have a useful backup.

Hoping someone has additional suggestions because I've tried everything in this thread and don't want to face losing all these photos 😟

I have the exact same issue. My photos got corrupted after I transferred them to my Mac Iphone app. Initially, I thought only photos from my late Iphone 5 were corrupted but I've found lots more on my iPhone 6s. It doesn't make sense, I found photos from the same album or time period with or not the problem. A third of them have that grey line. Luckily I kept the originals on my phone, but my storage is full and I don't have a spare computer.

Please, Apple Designers and Developers fix this issue, I totally lost trust in iPhone app.

I exactly have this same issue. My workflow is this: Connect my iPhone 6+ with my iMac via USB cable. Photo automatically launches. It auto-selects the new photos and I click on Import. Most but not all images have the gray bar. The gray bar is sometimes in the middle and sometimes on the bottom.

Try the following:

1 - launch Image Capture

2 - connect your iPhone via USB cable

3 - download the photos to a folder on your Desktop

4 - open the photos with Preview and check for the gray bars.

5 - import the folder of pictures into PHotos and check for the gray bars again.

This will help tell us where the corruption is occurring.

of a couple of those problem photos to the Desktop and open them with Preview. Check to see if the gray lines are there or not.

Is it possible they were corrupt during the transfer from my phone?

IS there a way to correct the grey line issue within the photo's application. I have this problem after using the slideshow tool within the Photos app.

Just noticed this term. If that's the thumbnail you're referring to try rotating them 90º in one direction and then 90º bad to see it the new thumbnails are OK.

Do the original files show the line outside of the library?

Me too.

The photos did not show the line on my phone. But when I open the photo to "view" it still shows the line. Also, within the margins of the line, the original photo appears to be a thumbnail hovering within the grey bar. And on the split, it's the right edge of the photo...as if the photo has duplicated itself, split itself and then placed the thumbnail. I can't seem to preview it without this anomaly. It's in over 400 of my photos dated June 20 2016 and forward. Already deleted from phone after import.

I run a summer camp for the city. I'm responsible for photos. All of my summer camp photos are ruined. We share them with the parents.

Totally bummed. Really disappointed in Mac for releasing updates that do this. For the average user, it's making me want to go back to windows. Super frustrated.

Note - this thread is over four (4) months old and millions and millions and millions of people use Photos and a very small few report this (none in the last 4 months) so it is not a major Photos issue - it is most likely a problem with your system or your work flow - but if all you do is complain and editorialize no one can help you

Already deleted from phone after import.

Did you verify that the photos were safely in your Photos library before deleting them from the iPhone?

Yes, Old Toad, I did.

But I do frequently check the box that says "delete all from phone after import" so that I don't have another step. I observed the images in my library but then after disconnecting my phone, the gray bar appeared.
