Battery life after El Capitan upgrade is very bad

Since upgrading to El Capitan, it seems like my battery drains rather quickly. Here is my EtreCheck report. Please advise on what I should do to get it back to normal. Thank you

If you read the report did you notice there isn't anything about the battery. Don't post these reports unless you have been asked to do so or have an identified problem in the report for which you need help.

Your battery information is reported in the Power section of System Information located in your Utilities folder. User Activity Monitor to see if you can identify any running processes consuming a lot of CPU time.

Pre-Mavericks

Open Activity Monitor in the Utilities folder. Select All Processes from the Processes dropdown menu. Click twice on the CPU% column header to display in descending order. If you find a process using a large amount of CPU time (>=70,) then select the process and click on the Quit icon in the toolbar. Click on the Force Quit button to kill the process. See if that helps. Be sure to note the name of the runaway process so you can track down the cause of the problem.

Mavericks and later

Open Activity Monitor in the Utilities folder. Select All Processes from the View menu. Click on the CPU tab in the toolbar. Click twice on the %CPU column header to display in descending order. If you find a process using a large amount of %CPU, then select the process and click on the Quit icon in the toolbar. Click on the Force Quit button to kill the process. See if that helps. Be sure to note the name of the runaway process so you can track down the cause of the problem.

Reinstall OS X or run through these items:

Try these in order testing your system after each to see if it's back to normal:

1. a. Resetting your Mac's PRAM and NVRAM

b. Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)

2. Restart the computer in Safe Mode, then restart again, normally. If this doesn't help, then:

Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the

COMMAND and R keys until the Utilities menu screen appears.

3. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.

When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility and press the Continue button. After Disk Utility loads select the

indented Macintosh HDentry from the the left side list. Click on the First Aid button in the toolbar. Wait until the operation

completes, then quit Disk Utility and returnto the main menu.

4. Reinstall OS X: Reboot from the Recovery HD. Select Reinstall OS X from the Utilities menu, and click on the Continue button.

Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.

You've got so much garbage on your computer, I'm surprised the **** thing even turns on. You need to completely uninstall, according to the developer's instructions, the following items:

  • MacKeeper
  • CleanMyMac 3
  • Memory Keeper

Macs do not need superfluous products like this in order to function correctly. There is no need for "cleaners," "organizers," "optimizers," "refreshers," or any other program that claims it will perform maintenance on your hard drive. There is no maintenance that needs to be done on your hard drive, and even if there was, you certainly don't need any of that tosh.

Jan 6, 2016 12:45 PM in response to sedona22

You are also running a leapfrog device or at least have leftover installation from the upgrade.

if you do not need this device uninstall that software, or if you do need the device is it charging off your laptop battery? Do you have any other devices attempting to recharge while you are on battery power?

Do you use Chrome? Chrome is an intergalatic cluster **** on the mac, it causes a great deal of issues, notably it taxes your system with bloated extensions and goes on a RAM rampage. If you do use chrome try another browser and see if the battery life is better.

Also reiterating the AV and Clean products for Mac are a horrendously bad thing to have running. The people who wrote those programs need to be taken from their computer desks and ground into a fine pink powder.

Let's see if we can figure this out...

Open Console in Applications>Utilities & see if there are any clues or repeating messages when this happens.

Click on the top line we want, Shift plus click on the bottom line we want, CMD+c to copy, then paste the text in a reply with CMD+v

A few dozen lines should be about right, hundreds or thousands won't likely be readable.

Well, Spotlight is having problems for one thing, & are you in the midst of Migrating something to this Mac?

What are you trying on Safari, that is hanging also?

Oh, when you deleted those 3 Apps, did you just delete them, or did you uninstall them?

The uninstallers often do not work & you need to manually go through a bunch of hidden file removers... do either of those 3 still show in etrecheck?
