Q: iPod Classic 160g does not sync

My iPod stopped syncing all of a sudden after my iTunes was updated to 12.3.2 .  Tested both USB ports, they work fine. Tested with different cables to connect, even bought a brand new cable, no connection. This exact thing happening is, I plug it into USB, iPod lights up, states "Connecting" and right away goes to "Ok to disconnect with the bar at the bottom" and automatically goes to my main screen. All music thats in it still works. Everything functions fine with the iPod. It just won't sync to my iTunes anymore. Its also, in a way, the back up for my entire iTunes library.

Is it set up to sync automatically?  Select iPod in iTunes (click its device button on horizontal bar) to show its settings screen on iTunes window.  Along left side (in the sidebar), under Settings, click Music.  To the right, the iPod's Music settings screen is shown.  Is the checkbox for Sync Music checked?  If it's not checked, your iPod is not set to sync music automatically.

NOTE:  When you change that setting, any songs on the iPod that are not in your iTunes library will be lost.

If the checkbox for Sync Music is not checked, checkmark it.  Below that, if your iTunes music library fits on your iPod, choose the option to sync Entire music library.  Then click Apply.  iTunes may remove all of your songs from iPod, and then sync your entire music library back.  If your iPod has a problem with its hard drive, this may cause an iPod that functioned "as is" to no longer function.  If it works, your entire music library will be on the iPod and iTunes will keep it up to date with changes, when you connect it (or click Sync if already connected).

It is set to sync automatically from my knowledge. I haven't changed those setting ever. Prior to this, it was simple. I plug the iPod thru usb. It shows up in my itunes. The problem now is, it's not even showing up in my iTunes or my desktop. When I plug in it into usb, the iPod will say "Connected" and within a few seconds "Ejecting" into "Ok to Disconnect". Before, soon as I plug it in, the "syncing" icon and word would show up on my iPod and into my iTunes. Now Its not doing anything now. If I remember correctly now, this happened after my last OS X update on Dec 19.

I'm having the same problem except I'm on windows 7 (and hesitant to upgrade to 10).  I'm running up to date itunes and ipod software (itunes 12) for my ipod classic 160gb which is only a couple years old.  I've troubleshooted restarting computer, itunes, ipod, different cords, usb ports.  Windows recognizes my ipod as an ipod.  However itunes doesn't.  The iPod itself works fine.  I've been having issues for a couple of months.  Everyonce and a while it will sync, but I can't find the reason for it.  I've also tried turning automatic sync on and off in the preferences.

I'm wondering if it's worth the effort to go back to itunes 11?  I'm really unimpressed with Apple at this point.

As a test, shut down (power off) your Mac and disconnect all USB devices.  You can leave standard USB keyboard/mouse connected, if used.  Do this to Reset (restart) the iPod

Learn how to reset your iPod - Apple Support  (see section iPod with a click wheel)

Start up the Mac, run iTunes, and connect iPod to a direct USB port on the Mac.  Is there any change in the iPod being able to stay connected?

Did you try the suggestions already posted in this topic (especially in the first reply post)?

New USB docking cables are not that expensive.

Everything from Apple is very expensive in Brazil. My iPod was set up to sync automatically. My iPod does not show up on iTunes. My iTunes was setted to Sync it's entire music library with him. I've tried every USB port on my notebook, even restating my computer and launching iTunes with only the iPod connected, nothing.

Does the iPod still operate as an iPod when disconnected?  Even if it does not have any songs on it, does it show it screen menus?

Did you try the later suggestion, copied below

When you do this and connect the iPod, watch the iPod's screen.  Does it say "Do not disconnect" or give other indication of a connection?  Does it only show the battery charging symbol?  Does it not react at all to being connected?

Yes, usually he show that "select language" page. Yes, and also took this time to answer you because I gave it another try, but nothing. When I connect it, he goes to the "Connected" screen, his battery is ok, I suppose, it doesn't. I connect the iPod, nothing happnes (iTunes setted to open up with device connection). If I unplug the iPod, and connect my iPhone, iTunes opens up, although, if I connect the iPod right after that, iTunes will freeze. I mean, until I Disconnect the iPod from the USB port. Do you know if there is a way to reseting its factory settings? Do you believe this might be helpful, or we have another solution to this problem? Don't want to make drama, but this iPod is one of the best things in my life.079.JPG

That image shows your iPod has a data connection with the computer.  That's good.  Eject and disconnect iPod.  Then, try putting the iPod into Disk Mode.

Putting iPod into Disk Mode - Apple Support

With other USB devices still disconnected, run iTunes and connect iPod (by itself) to a direct USB port on the computer.  If iTunes picks it up, it may prompt you to do a Restore with a message about "recovery."  If you are OK with erasing the iPod, tell iTunes to proceed with the Restore.

So, I tried this disk mode thing, and it kind of worked (I tried to flim what was happening, but it wasn't very good). Let me try to explain you: I did this and my iTunes recognized it imediatilly, but there was a window saying something like "iTunes recognized an iPod, which seems to be corrupted, you might have to restore it", and the iPod screen on the back, with the option to restore it, but as soon as I clicked "ok" in this window, the iPod went to the Apple logo screen, and the connection between him and iTunes was gone. I'll try to do it again, maybe try to be a little faster this time, but I'm affraid this won't be 100% helpful.

I treid it again and here's what happened (I noticed): in the precise moment that iTunes recognized the iPod, he went to the Apple logo screen. There was absolutelly no time at all to try to restore it. What should I do/try next? Is there a way to restore it without the help of iTunes?

Did it again, everything was SO fast between the "Disk Mode" ~ "Apple Logo" screens, that iTunes never got to recognize the iPod. I have absolutelly no idea of what I should do.
