Getting the "Pinwheel" too much!!

Seems like when you try to view something on Facebook and such, I get the "Pinwheel" and then the Mac freezes up and I have to reboot! Very frustrating. What is the fix. Do I have a "Virus" or other things? iMac Mountain Lion. 😕

Downloaded the Etrecheck and ran the system. Showed a bunch of Malware and then suggested using Malwarebytes program to rid the Malware. I have noticed an improvement in the "Speed" on which programs/sites open, once this was accomplished. At the moment, I can say that there is a "Big" improvement. "babowa" has added suggestions as well. Will work on those suggestions as well. Thanks to babowa and you as well. 🙂

Oh No!! Just got the dreaded Beachball once again. Was on FaceBook, viewing some photo's posted by a friend and Boom, BeachBall! Then, my iMac freezes up and I have to reboot. I was encouraged by the prior fix and I must admit, things were improved. Faster response. Uninstalled Kaspersky and Advanced Mac Cleaner. BTW, the "BeachBall" has been noticed on FaceBook most of the time. Can't say 100% of the time, but mostly. ???? 😕

Suggest removing f-secure

Suggest removing Advanced Mac Cleaner

Not sure what "Safe anywhere Mac" is, but it sounds like an anti-virus kind of package (or is this part of f-secure)

MacFUSE can add extra load to the disk.

What do you think? 😕🙂

I'd say, if nothing else, you have learned to take screen shots, and now to copy and paste into the forum (I'm assuming you knew about copy and paste in general before this, just didn't know about it for EtreCheck).

Okay. Followed the suggestions for removing f-secure, Advance Mac Cleaner, MacFUSE and "safe anywhere Mac".Ran EtreCheck once again:

I do not see anything annoying with your system at the moment.

Hopefully your Facebook access will go more smoothly.

If it should start acting up again, I would see if booting into Safe mode changes your Facebook access behavior

<https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-6174>

and I would also look at your DNS server. Typically your Mac thinks this is your home router, and your home router gets its DNS from the ISP. It is possible to tell the Mac to use a different DNS server

System Preferences -> Network -> Advanced -> DNS -> [+]

OpenDNS.org

208.67.222.222

208.67.220.220

Google DNS

8.8.8.8

8.8.4.4

If a DNS server is misbehaving, it can cause the translation of a URL name into an IP address take a long time, and while that is happening, your sitting there cooling your heals.

I would ONLY really change these if your Facebook behavior returns. Otherwise, it is not necessary, although your welcome to play with them if you want.

A friend of mine has had the same issues with "Beachballing" and she ran EtreChack which showed some results ( In Red ) which gave us pause. Could you please critique the attached EtreCheck for her operating system. I f you could also add remedies and how to accomplish the remedies? Thanks so much. 🙂

The 2 places I’ve seen recommended most to buy reliable RAM are below. I have purchased RAM several times from Other World Computing and have always been very satisfied with the product and service. They have on-line instructions on how to replace the RAM. OWC has also tested RAM above what Apple states is the maximum. I now have 6GB installed on a early 2008 iMac supposedly limited to 4 GB and noticed an improvement.

My friend has a MacBook 7,1, Model A1342. If we increase The RAM, to say 8GB, would we have to replace any other components? Would the speed increase/diminish, stay the same? Do we need to replace the Hard Drive as well? Thanks for the info., looks like OWC has very good instructional video's as well. 😕

I am Back!! Sadly. Getting the BeachBalling once again and mostly when I am viewing something on FaceBook. Anyway, I am attaching my recent EtreCheck for your viewing and examination. I really don't know where I am picking up some of these things. Perhaps FaceBook. I have been doing some medical research as of late, so I have been going to various web sites for this research. Anyway, you folks have been a help in the past and perhaps you can shed some light on what is currently happening, with the present BeachBalling. BTW, once I get the BeachBall, I have to restart on each occasion. Thanks.
