Try relaunching Safari while holding down the shift key.

After downloading the up dates for El Capitan,

Safari stopped working altogether, I now have the same problem but it has stopped crashing. Apple Chat support tell me they are working on the problem but couldn't say when these Safari issues will be resolved? They suggested I try to download another search engine but Safari won't stay open long enough for me to do that!

Did you try this? It worked for me and seems to be the least destructive solution to all the problems folks are posting this morning.

Had exactly the same problem. Went to System Preferences, turned off Safari. Then launched it.
It worked, so I turned Safari back on in iCloud Settings and confirmed the merge.

After restarting Safari everything worked as normal and all my bookmarks, search capabilities and login into was still there.

Hope that helps.

Thanks. I read that you need to clear caches. Apparently this is easy on iPad or iPhone you just turn Airplane mode on and off. For the mac you go in Safari Preferences > Advanced > Show Develop menu . Then Empty Caches in the Develop menu. I then turned the preference Search > Include Safari suggestions back on and quit Safari and restarted. Seems to be all good now.

Same problem here – SO frustrating that once in, say Google, you can fill in the search bar once, but after that you can't type, highlight, delete a search entry. The curser doesn't work. You have to go back to Google in the top bar, rest it or quit out of Safari to enter another search. Pressing 'back' doesn't help either.

Unchecking 'Include Safari Suggestions' did not help me. Neither does unchecking 'Include safari suggestions' help.

I'm on Yosemite 10.10.5 and Safari latest version 9.0.3.

Apple, you REALLY need to sort this out.

I took all extensions, no success. When I installed a Malware (in my case Malwarebytes) I found some "unfriendly" stuff, deleted it and here we are. It work. Hope this may help you.
