iOS 9.2.1- Safari crashes everytime you tap on the search/address bar

If you open Safari on iOS 9.2.1 and tap on the search/address bar, the browser crashes instantly to the home screen. Verified this on 3 different iPhone units, 2 iPhone 6 and 1 iPhone 6S Plus, all updeted to the last iOS version, so is definitely an iOS 9.2.1 bug. If you open a "private mode" tab, the browser works just fine.

All the iPhones affected I've tried, are running iOS with language set on Italian.

Have you seen this bug? Solutions? Clearing history/cache doesn't seem to resolve the issue.

Apple has fixed it. Wipe history and website data, turn on Safari suggestions and its back to normal. If you don't clear the cache it will probably still crash.

Update : it should be solved now

my two iPads work this morning, they have not turn the safari suggestions off

my iPhone has been turn off the safari suggestions overnight, turn on this morning still crashed, so cleared the history and cache and reboot. It is also working now with safari suggestions ON

Also working for me after cleaning history and navigation data.

Tried same method some hours ago (with other device) and it didn't work, so really They have solved the problem.

I tried and tried to reproduce this problem on iOS and my Macs. Nothing was wrong. Did it have anything to do with location services?

Try closing all the applications on your iDevice (double click the home button). Then open Safari.

I've been having a Safari freeze very frequently and not when tapping or typing in the address bar - I have pages open and when I switch back to Safari and scroll a bit the page freezes - then Safari becomes unresponsive but I can switch out of it and when I switch back Safari may cash or not but the tab that I was on is blank and I have to enter the URL again and then it is way for a bit. Been VERY frequent since the update to 9.2.1.

None of this has helped me. Safari on My iPhone 6plus freezes up eventually crashes after tapping a url bar. Started a few days ago. tried all the suggestions and nothing !!! Argh.
