Apple TV 4 No longer connecting over ethernet, but wifi works

So pretty much nothing has changed in my LAN set up. I have my atv and a pc tower hooked up to an ethernet switch and the pc is happily accepting the connection. For some reason my atv decided to give up on ethernet entirely out of the blue tonight. I've tried connecting it to different ports/different cables, setting up a static ip, restarting my router.. nothing is working. I'm out of ideas. There's no mac/ip address conflict according to my router. Maybe there was an update that bricked my atv ethernet port?

I have done all of those things and then some -- spending a couple of hours in total troubleshooting, resetting via USB-C then ultimately having the Genius Bar look at it only to say "yep, your ethernet port is bad". He then offered me a device swap for $120 or $130 because the 12 month warranty was up...it is about 17 months old. So for now I am removing it from my basement media room and will have it upstairs next to the wifi router so that it's usable. That short of a lifespan is unacceptable but obviously I'm not alone. There are several threads on the same topic on these forums and on other sites, maybe it's a problem with the hardware that Apple needs to look into? Funny thing it that it is my first bad experience with an Apple product (5 Macs, 4 iPads, 2 iPhones, 2 Apple TVs - not to mention the other 6 Apple devices I've helped extended family buy/support) and I'm going into a buy cycle to upgrade several devices so this experience has me looking at other options. It's quite a bummer but I will get over it.

You may be absolutely correct but I'm not feeling all that motivated to validate it beyond the few hours I've already invested. What I do know is that most people don't bother to report these things which makes it hard for a company to track and remediate issues before they hurt CXI scores.

The point is that Apple sells a premium experience at a price to match. When the experience doesn't live up the expectations people will look elsewhere. I have some buy decisions to make and, regrettably, will be doing exactly that. I would like to see Apple remain on top of customer experience so I've taken a few minutes to share this experience.

Same here, after the 9.1.1 update it's stopped the ethernet port working, was ok over both wifi and ethernet before. Here's another thread discussing why airplay disconnects after sleep, all was fine until the 9.1.1. update. I tried the whole reset/restore and the ethernet port is out.

Why does my apple tv keep saying to turn on home sharing on my computer when it is already on?

Try the following steps, check whether things are working after each step where appropriate, before trying the next.

  1. Restart the Apple TV (Settings > System > Restart).
  2. Restart the Apple TV by removing ALL the cables for 30 seconds.
  3. Restart your router. (Also try removing it’s power cord for at least 30 seconds)
  4. Reset the Apple TV (Settings > System > Reset > Reset all settings)
  5. Restore the Apple TV (Settings > System > Reset > Restore)
