iPhone 6 battery dies in cold weather

Battery dies on my iPhone 6 in cold weather. Phone is about 15 months old, and dies from good battery 50% to 30% down to nothing and auto switch off. ON normal weather the battery is still very good and doesn't show sign of weakening on any normal day. But if it is cold outside, phone will dye in minutes if used outdoors. I first noticed when we went skiing around -5C (20-25F) and it was really bad there. But now it started doing it when it's around +5C (41F) shutting the phone down from 30% battery. When I plug it in, it immediately turns the phone back on and shows 25 or 35% remaining....

Anyone? Design issue? Specific app to kill? Running iOS 9.3, but it was already doing it on iOS 9.2 .... Thanks

I have the same issue on my 17 month old iPhone 6. Phone is usually 25% - 30% charged. Leave it in the car to play football for an hour - come back and it has either switched itself off - in which case it asks me to plug it in to a charger - or is down to 1%.

It was especially frustrating last night as I had a tyre burst on the motorway. Thankfully, as it was warm in the car the phone was ok initially and I managed to call a breakdown company. However, for safety, I had to leave the car and stand behind the motorway barriers. After ten minutes outside in the cold (around 4 degrees Celsius) it shut down. Not good when you are expecting a call back from the breakdown company, or need to phone people to tell them your predicament!

Plugged it in via the cigarette lighter as soon as I could get back in to the car about 90 minutes later - hey presto - 30% battery!

Suppose the easy solution is to carry round a USB charger and spare lightning cable, but this is far from ideal.

Was thinking of wiping the phone and restoring from back up, but this is pointless if it's a hardware issue.

Same thing here. 1.5 going on 2 years. iPhone 6S is fine in warm weather, going down even to 1% still working. But this week I was out and with a temp at 7C it died completely and when I tried to turn it on it gave me the no battery message when the phone still had a good 30% to go. When I brought it inside it was fine after plugging to the outlet (30% still there...). It happened 3 times now this week. Anyone had any clue on this?

I had the same issue today. I have iPhone 6 and had it attached to my bike on a bike trip today. It was about 10° C outside (50° F). I had about 60% battery and it turned off without any notice. When I tried to turn it on, first it said I should plug it in to recharge, when I was holding the power button, it started and then turned off after about 10 seconds of me using it. I've tried this about 4 times with some breaks between, but it was the same each time.

Then I really needed to look at the map for directions, so I was trying out various tricks to get it working. I turned the phone on and then very quickly turned on Airplane mode and then went to settings and turned on Low battery mode. After that, the phone didn't turn off and I could use it. I even turned off the Airplane mode after some time and it was still working and it didn't turn off after that. So maybe the Low battery mode helps with this?

After that, it didn't turn off for like 2 hours and was working just fine. When I came back from outside, the phone had about 27% of battery (I was using it a lot for navigation etc.) When I plugged the phone in (still quite cold), after only few seconds of charging, it reported it had 41% of battery. Weird.

My phone is about 1.5 years old, but in a good state generally.

It seems that it has some issues with battery in cold weather and it doesn't even have to be that cold... I wonder if I'll have more issues when the winter starts, but unless cycling, I usually keep the phone in my pocket, so I guess it should be fine.

Same issue today.

-5C outside phone at 80% turns off. Cannot turn on, says i need to connect it to the power source.

Went inside home, turned it on and 80% on the battery!

Yesterday was the same. Calling the parking company to fix an issue, the phone shuts down. I had to close the car doors and plug it in otherwise i couldn't make the call!!

IPhone 6S 16GB. 1 year old.

Exactly experiencing the same issue.

- iPhone 6 64GB

- age 1.5 years

Being a previous Android owner, I never experienced a similar issue with my HTC One M7 or HTC Wildfire. Same battery types are used as in iPhones (Li-ion). Both Android phones are reaching the age of 3-4 years now and the batteries still work fine regardless of the weather conditions...

Really curious issue for the more expensive range of phones...

Hoping for Apple to provide support. :-)

I to have the same issue.

I have an iphobe 6 plus 128gb.

Its so much worse than my previous iphone 5, that coped pretty well with cold weather.

I think its a design flaw, the battery is most likely much thinner and gets cold much, much faster. This resulting in this worthless cold weather capabilities.

Now, I would like to know if 6S plus och the 7 plus is any better? Or if I should just except that its a lousy winter phone?

I have the same problem. The last 1-2 weeks when I am running and listening to music with no problems. If I then want to go into my iPhone then it dies completely and can't be restarted. To day I was running with music and stopped to take a picture and it died. I tried to start it again but got the empty battery logo. When I came home and the iPhone still was very cold (running for almost 2 hours in -3C) I plugged it to the charger and it showed me the empty battery logo again. I starts with the apple loge and when it is ready it shows me that the battery is at 75%. I have experienced this a couple of times. Last winter I didn't have that problem so could it be a software error that is introduced in a software update during the summer?
