iPhone 6 battery dies in cold weather

I experienced the same yesterday with my iphone 6 plus which is cca 2 years old, it happened during skiing. I was unavailable a couple of hours (and couldn't listen to my music via my BT Outdoor Tech chips in my helmet) and after going to a warm room and warming it up it started back @ cca 32 % batery.

Luckily I still have a Lumia 920 - will use it for skiing from now on, and when the time comes for a change, I will say goodbye to apple iphones.

Same problem here with an iPhone 6s plus. Shut downs at 10 degrees Celsius. Can't use it in Germany for weeks because of winter.

"Repaired" by apple 2 times the problem is still here. Very disapointed about quality and service in the 2017. 1000 Euro for a not working device is top much.

I am using iphone 6s plus. Cold weather is the only problem. Even i am facing he same problem. Mine like charged at 68% left and when i go out the outside temperature is -2 to -5 and battery Starts draining dramatically.

Problem is the battery being Used by the iphone can't cope up with the cold temperatures as soon as the phone gets cold battery drain and within few minutes it shows that there is no battery left.

When the temperature comes Normal then it starts again.

Iphone battery got not capabilities to use in this temp. And i am really ****** off. My phone is 13 mo ths old.

-2 to -5 is outside the iPhones operating range, which is entered just below this.

Try using your iPhone in its operating range, then tell us what happens, we already know what happens when you are outside the range.

iPhones have an operating temperature ambient situated between 32° and 95° Fahrenheit, that's 0° and 35° Celsius.

I'm surprised that after all the thread and the obvious fact that there is a clear problem with the battery, Apple seems to ignore our problems and does not even try to contact us or write something in this forum. Very disappointed.

This article (and the ones linked to it) specifically state the issue is with the iPhone 6s. However, as myself and others have noted, it's also happening with 6 and 6+. Those of us who have something other than the 6s and are experiencing the same issue are apparently SOL as far as Apple is concerned.

The "operating range" is part of the problem. If the iPhone has such a limited operating range (especially on the low end), then why do they advertise and sell phones in regions (much of North America and Europe along with northern China, Korea, and Japan) that frequently experience temperatures below the minimum operational threshold?

Alright, at this time, we’ve looked over some information. We see that your device is not eligible under our unexpected shut down program but we’re aware of this issue and currently investigating this issue with the device shutting down the way it is. I recommend that you look forward to an update at this time. There were no issues with the diagnostics at all.

I recommend that you look forward to software update via iPhone, but I can definitely get you over to our local Apple Store or Apple Service Provider to get the device examined, but definitely we’re still working on this issue with the devices shutting down the way it is.

That's great - Please keep us up to speed - the cold weather shutdowns definitely happen more as the phone ages. My 6S is 15 months old - first winter was not an issue - now dies almost instantly in cold weather.

It's all ********! Apple tells us that there is a small amount of phones exposed to whatever, but everywhere i ask, people all over the place are experiencing the same problem. It's too big for apple to admit.

You can try whatever you want, but i can assure you: it won't work! I've tried it all. It's an internal problem. I hope your battery will continue to stop at 30%, because mine is sometimes even quiting at 80%. And when you really need your phone the most, when your in the middle of nowhere, searching for an address, and really need to call home, that's the moment you will be the most disappointed about your old friend Apple!!!!!

This has nothing to do with cold weather... Apple has a problem, and they keep us in the dark. Battery stops at any given temperature, at any given day, with whatever is on the phone. When you empty your phone, reset it, do a repair mode, even do a apple chat and diagnostics, you will still have the same **** problem... You remember the problem with the Toyota Prius a couple of years ago? I'm afraid this is a similar big problem that can cost apple billions, if they admit it. So they just don't. They are big enough, so why should they? Even a little bit of support is too much to ask. When i ask them if they can contact me when the issue is resolved, they just say: No. You have to check the website for news. They don't contact you! It's too expensive. That's what has become of your old friend Apple on whom you relied on for so many years!!!

Shutdowns at 40 degrees F and 35% battery are no longer occurring now that my phone and battery have been replaced with a new version of the same model (6s+). I restored using a backup of the failing old phone with all the latest updates, so I don't see how it could have been software in that case. My failing old phone also showed nothing in the diagnostics according to Apple store person.

I have an IPHONE 6S Plus purchased Dec 2015 in Canada and it just shutdown in 0 Celsius (32 F) with around 35% remaining power. When I powered it back on it showed zero power. I put phone on the charger and it got back up to 35%.

There is definitely a problem here.

No csound; these phones are factually not operating within spec. Mine died today at 55% battery when it had been stored in an inner pocket and was clearly well above freezing (around 40-45 Fahrenheit).

I live in Holland, a country where it's never cold. It doesn't matter what temperature it is... the phone is not working correct and apple can't seem to find the problem. If they have to recall al iphones, they can shut down, so they try to solve the problem by ignoring our questions, hoping to solve the problem in the mean time. Sadly.

Your old (expensive) friend apple, on which you could count on, has left you in the cold!
