iPhone 6 battery dies in cold weather

Battery dies on my iPhone 6 in cold weather. Phone is about 15 months old, and dies from good battery 50% to 30% down to nothing and auto switch off. ON normal weather the battery is still very good and doesn't show sign of weakening on any normal day. But if it is cold outside, phone will dye in minutes if used outdoors. I first noticed when we went skiing around -5C (20-25F) and it was really bad there. But now it started doing it when it's around +5C (41F) shutting the phone down from 30% battery. When I plug it in, it immediately turns the phone back on and shows 25 or 35% remaining....

Anyone? Design issue? Specific app to kill? Running iOS 9.3, but it was already doing it on iOS 9.2 .... Thanks

Same problem here, but with an 18 month-old 6 Plus. The battery level shows anywhere from 30-60% then suddenly dies. When plugged back in to power, it jumps up to near previous level immediately.
It's worked fine all year, and now that the temps are dropping to around 10 degrees C (well within stated operating temps), the phone is suddenly shutting off every day.

Sorry I can't be of any help to you guys, but would very much like to hear an Apple comment on this one.

Since my last instance (29th of October) I haven't had the problem any longer albeit the weather has turned a bit colder than before..the only difference since then, is that I did update the software to the latest version....I thought the problem was hardware related...now I am not really sure what to think instead... Since many other people here are having a very similar problem, I believe it would be useful if everybody, when reporting the issue, could specify what software are they running on. I am currently on 10.1.1 (14B100). Cheers, iMessy.

Identical problem as everyone else here - today my iPhone 6s (iOS 10.1.1) phone's battery was at 60%, and within 10 minutes of being in 5 degree Celsius temps it turns off. Warm it up in an inside jacket to allow it to turn on again, and within minutes of being on, and outside, it turns off again with a visual prompt to charge. I have previously experienced something similar with an iPhone 5 but only in much colder temps (-10 Celsius). No other battery issues but this! Makes it completely unreliable for any outdoor activities.

I started noticing this problem back in the spring. I've since restored my iPhone but I'm still having the same problem. I didn't have this issue through the summer but the last couple weeks when it's on like plus 5-10 Celsius. It's dying. Doesn't matter how full, could be 85% and still it shuts off. When I get home and plug it in it's right back to the same percentage.

It is just now getting cold in indianapolis IN - iphone6 10.1.1 died at 43% after about 5 minutes in 28ish degrees F ('feels like' 20 degrees F). put in pocket for 5 minutes and tried but needs plugged in sign. 5 more minutes powered up showing 43% again and almost immediately shut back down with no warning - black screen. went inside for about 5 minutes powered up and 30 minutes later still showing 43%. This is stupid, its really not that cold and will certainly get much colder very soon. If this is a hardware issue apple needs to do a battery replacement program like i heard rumors was done with the iphone5. still at 43% inside...

Today I experience the same problem .due to the date of the replies of this thread I believe it is a software bug, I'm running my phone on iOS 10.2 or something like that it is the latest version ( not beta) .

Another problem I'm having is : Since I updated my phone to iOS 10 my battery level doesn't work functionaly and it loses battery when It gets to 20%

This issue is soo annoying I can't even describe.

It just dies in the middle of phone callls no matter how much battery has left.

Such a shame.

The only solution I've found is to heat the phone with your hands in your pocket. Few mins and you can try switch it on sometime first try won't work, but second one a few sec after usually works. However the problem is that startup eats your battery a lot. So u may find ur phone 20% less charged
