iPhone 6 battery dies in cold weather

Battery dies on my iPhone 6 in cold weather. Phone is about 15 months old, and dies from good battery 50% to 30% down to nothing and auto switch off. ON normal weather the battery is still very good and doesn't show sign of weakening on any normal day. But if it is cold outside, phone will dye in minutes if used outdoors. I first noticed when we went skiing around -5C (20-25F) and it was really bad there. But now it started doing it when it's around +5C (41F) shutting the phone down from 30% battery. When I plug it in, it immediately turns the phone back on and shows 25 or 35% remaining....

Anyone? Design issue? Specific app to kill? Running iOS 9.3, but it was already doing it on iOS 9.2 .... Thanks

There is another thread complaining about a similar issue, though we hand't necessarily correlated the problem to temperature.

Re: ios 10.1.1 battery problem

In my case temperature could definitely be a factor. As per the post above, Apple appears to be replacing some 6S batteries related to a problem like this. I'm pretty sure mine was working fine in all temperatures before 10.1.1 but I'll be checking to see if I qualify for this replacement.

I have a 6 with the same problem. It dies consistently in 45 degree weather with full charge. I just returned from the Apple Store after second visit. First visit they checked battery which was fine and then reloaded software. This visit they once again checked the batttery and found it was fine. I showed them this thread and noted that 45 degrees F is not very cold for a phone to not function properly. They said they couldn't do anything for me as " it's just an issue with some iPhone 6's". They said

I could upgrade or have battery replaced for $79. Really disappointing. It tells me apple products re going downhill for a phone not to function over a reasonable temperature range. I also replaced the front microphone a few months ago for $119.

Started happening to me on bike rides with my iPhone in my backpack. Apple Expert was no help, they did a diagnostic check, which displayed my battery dying then recharging in a few minutes, so they updated my Firmware which did nothing.

Quick solution: warm the iPhone in your hands and perform a reboot. (Hold the Power & Home button at the same time).

iPhone went from 0% to 55% ...

Guess I'll be keeping my iPhone in my pocket for future Winter rides.

I and my wife had exactly the same issue today. We both have iPhone 6s Plus. We went for a walk today afternoon and it was about 6°C outside (it started getting cold, as winter is coming). My phone had about 45% battery and phone of my wife had about 60% battery, and after 10 minutes of walking both phones almost simultaneously turned off without any notice! 😟😟😟 We tried to turn them on, then it was said that we shall plug it in to recharge (completely nonsense). After second try, by holding the power button, and finally my phone started and then turned off again after about 40 seconds of start up and using it. The similar situation was with the phone of my wife. We rapidly tried to turn on the phones so many times, but it was unsuccessful and the same each time.

The most interesting part of this story was when we came back from outside and in a few minutes both phones turned on without any difficulties, and my phone had about 30% battery!!! and phone of my wife had 40% battery!!!

Both iPhone 6s Plus are less than 1 year old. It's obvious that not only iPhone 6s has hardware issues with battery in cold weather (as Apple reported), but also iPhone 6s Plus.

I use iPhones since 2007, every year I was changing the model and since that time I never had any issues with battery, even when outside temperature was below 0°C, with all my iPhones I had in the past.

I am very disappointed on that kind of quality of hardware which costs ca. EUR 1100!!! And what I really don't like that winter season is coming and I might face this issue every day and so many times per day that I can even not imagine!!!

@Apple, please try to solve the issue and not hide it. Customers will thank you for that, otherwise you loose them by ignoring this hardware issue. The story with Samsung Note 7 is a good reference to think about.

P.S. As my warranty is still valid, I am going to file a claim and will see what is gonna happen.

Same problem with my 1.6 years' old iPhone 6. Phone dies from 55% battery at 5 Deg C. This is absolutely unacceptable for any phones. Being using iPhone for many years and really liked it, but this battery issue ****** me off. Just image you are out with a phone that has over 50% battery, while you are right in the middle of a call, it suddenly turns off ... Time to get an Android!

Has anyone had their battery successfully replaced by Apple yet?

i Went into my local store on the day the replacement program was announce, but no walk-I'm Genius Bar appointmeets available. Told to contact online support to confirm if my serial number was eligible.

DId the online chat, but wouldn't even entertain checking my serial number - just kept telling me to make a Genius Bar appointment at my local store. Made an appointment specifically to have battery replaced.

Went to store - confirmed phone is eligible - but no replacement batteries in stock! Will have to back to store again.

A week later and still waiting for notification that my new battery is in.
