Logic Pro X Template will not save state of Mute Record Solo

Maybe this can't be done....but I wish it could. Maybe a bug?

I'm trying to create a template with some channels Muted, and others armed for recording.

I do the "Save as Template" with the tracks Muted, Armed ...

But, when I create a song from the template, no channels are muted, soloed or armed.

I use this template to record several songs at a time in a live setting.

It ***** to have to keep clicking the record/mute buttons every time I start a new song from the template.

I tried creating a new template from scratch with no luck.

Anyone?

Thanks

Wally

Try deleting Logic's preferences...

You can resolve many issues by restoring Logic Pro X back to its original settings. This will not impact your media files. To reset your Logic Pro X user preference settings to their original state, do the following:

  1. Quit Logic Pro X
  2. In the Finder, choose Go to Folder from the Go menu.
  3. Type ~/Library/Preferences in the "Go to the folder" field.
  4. Press the Go button.
  5. Remove the com.apple.logic10.plist file from the Preferences folder. Note that if you have programmed any custom key commands, this will reset them to the defaults. You may wish to export your custom key command as a preset before performing this step. See the Logic Pro X User Manual for details on how to do this.
  6. If you are having trouble with a control surface in Logic Pro X, then you may also wish to delete the com.apple.logic.pro.cs file from the preferences folder.
  7. Restart the computer.

Note: If you cannot find any of the files listed above, you didn’t follow the instructions exactly as written! 🙂

Additional note:

Since my previous posts regarding issues with Templates I have been creating some Templates using 10.2.1 and I cannot recreate the problem of Button Save States not being retained... It appears to me this quirk/bug has been fixed by that update... or possibly even the earlier 10.2 as I must be honest and say I hadn't tested for it, in a while...

Feb 21, 2016 10:33 AM in response to The Art Of Sound

I deleted the plist as suggested.

Record Button state still will not open as it was saved. Problem still persists. (Projects and Templates)😕

And during experimenting I find it hit and miss if the Mute button saves properly. (Projects and Templates)😕

I still have one track that I can't turn off Solo-Safe. Well I can turn it off, but when I save and open, its back on again. 😕

Since this is not an issue for anyone else I'll assume there is something wrong with my setup. I'll try a reinstall of Logic if necessary.

Its only a minor inconvenience so I may live with it for now. Just had hoped for an easy fix 🙂

I will report back to this thread if I find the answer.

Thanks for all the help so far.

I'll try a reinstall of Logic if necessary.

Doing so won't likely help.... as nothing will change...

Check.... if you have any external midi hardware connected... to ensure its not the hardware that is cancelling out the button states.. by shutting down Mac.. and then unplugging all midi hardware and restart Mac leaving it all unplugged.. and test then (The shut down and restart is important in this process)

Also, ensure you have no other midi related apps running in the background of your Mac.... (such as Live, rewire and so on)

Also, if you have or are using an iOS apps to send midi to Logic like Logic Remote, soft synths or anything else.. that you have correctly quit all apps on such devices so the apps are not still running in the background and again tes..

Finally, you did also delete the CS prefs when you deleted prefs earlier yes? If not, do so....

Did not help 😟

Midi Synths powered down and unplugged from midi, no iPad app running, FaderPort control surface unplugged, even unplugged midi interfaces.

Deleted both plist files this time. Restarted MacBook Pro. Tried Creating Project and Template with Record Enabled.

Neither one will open with Record Enabled.

Thanks for the suggestion.

Which audio device do you have?

Try unplugging that the same way and using internal audio only.... (if you havent tried that already)

There has to be something on or connected to your system that is causing this as I have now tested this on several of my testbed systems here and i cannot recreate the problem once I updated to 10.2.1.

I also contacted a couple of my clients and asked them to test it and they too, couldn't re-create this issue either... in 10.2.1 and either Mavericks or El Cap.... so Im guessing its going to be a 'your system' specific problem... for some odd reason...

Feb 23, 2016 3:12 PM in response to The Art Of Sound

My audio device is a Presonus SL24. I turned it off and killed the driver.

Same problem on Built in Audio. 😕

I even checked the Environment to see if there was something obscure in there. Nope.

Even went as far as checking the Key Mapping to make sure nothing in there can be the cause. Nothing popped out.

I can work around this issue, but it is annoying that it seems to work for everyone else.

Strange

Thanks again for the help

There is one last possibility to test for....

Using Internal Audio..... not your Audio Interface... for both Input and Output..

Please do exactly this....

Create a new project...

Add a couple of software instrument (SI) tracks and then an audio track and drag an audio apple loop to the audio track... leaving the SI tracks empty

Then.. set the record buttons on for both the SI tracks and then select the Audio track and record arm that too.

You should now see a solid Red Rec button for both the SI tracks and a flashing Rec button for the Audio track.

If you dont see this you have not followed the above steps correctly.

Next...

Save the project out under a unique name.. and then close the project and then reload it

If you do not see two solid Red Recs for the SI tracks and a Grey Rec button with a red R in it for the audio track.... then...

Zip the project up..... (This is important..) and upload it to dropbox or somewhere else of your choice so i can download it and open it myself on my rigs here..

This is so I can check things out to ensure what is going on with saved projects from your system.....

I will then do the same thing and upload a project that opens here with record set.. for you to test on your system,,, again, to double check things.

However....

If upon re opening the project... you do see two solid Reds for the SI tracks and a Grey Rec button with a Red R for the audio track.. all is working as it should... when using internal audio only for both Input and Output..

Cheers..

I don't use SI tracks that often, so I had issues getting both tracks to arm for recording. Every time I clicked one the other would unarm. Normal??

When I played my midi keyboard they both Armed (solid Red Buttons) by themselves, so I left it alone. I would think you should be able to arm more than one SI track by clicking the respective Record Buttons.

Got it to the point of both SI's on solid and Audio track Blinking. Saved as a Project and a Template. Both returned the same disappointing results.

Only Difference is the SI tracks came back with Solid Grey Background with Red R.

And of course Audio Track not armed at all, but R turns red when I select the track.

On top of that when I click the SI track Record buttons strange events happen:

With Both Tracks Selected. Clicking R on one track will enable Solid Red Record on both tracks (not all the time, but this is what I thought would be normal).

With Both Tracks Selected. Clicking R on one track makes it Solid Red and the other Toggles Red R/White R. (sometimes)

With Both Tracks Selected. Clicking R on one track makes it a Red R and the other Toggles Red R/White R. (sometimes)

With One Track Selected. Clicking R on the track makes it Solid Red or Red R (random which it chooses).

Maybe this is by design and I just don't see the pattern.😕

Silly question at this point but what is the difference between the White R, Red R, and Red Button? I assume White is unarmed, but why the 2 red states?

Does the Record button work different for Audio and SI tracks?

Also note that when I recall my original templates, if I select an audio track, the R is Red, but I assume that does not indicate its armed. Maybe its always red on the selected audio track I never noticed before?? I'm expecting to see a Solid Red Button (flashing on Audio Tracks). Not a red R that only shows up when the Audio track is selected.

Given the above confusion I did not have time to post a project for you.

Can you help me see the light with the Record Button states?

Thanks

Wally

If you read through the following thread...

http://www.logicprohelp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=537047

...you'll probably understand why things are not quite so clear cut as they should be in regards to the Record Button States... but be prepared to have your brain scrambled a little in the process...

Feb 25, 2016 7:03 PM in response to The Art Of Sound

Scrambled eggs it is.

I thought it was just me.

So back to my original issue with record enable on templates. When you recall a template, with Audio tracks enabled for recording, do your tracks show the Blinking Red button? Even without selecting the tracks?

I'm going to continue to use Studio One Pro until Apple gets this sorted.

Just a follow up...

I formatted my HDD last weekend. Time Machine restore of data did not work as seamlessly as I thought it would. Time Machine refused to recognize any of the backups. Lucky for me, I was able to manually find and copy all of my songs, email folders, any many other data files. There is a weekend I'll never get back.

Anyway I reinstalled Logic Pro X from the App store on this fresh OSX and I still can't Save a Template with the Audio Tracks Record Enabled. Actually I can save it, but when I create a song from that template, the tracks are no longer Record Enabled (Flashing Red Button). And no matter what I do Track 2 always comes up with Solo-Safe enabled. Basically still having my original issues. Guess I'll live with it for now. After all this I think I'll remember to manually record enable the tracks on a new song almost every time. 🙂

Later I Installed Presonus StudioOne Producer and that works fine.

To The Art Of Sound...

If upon re opening the project... you do see two solid Reds for the SI tracks and a Grey Rec button with a Red R for the audio track.. all is working as it should... when using internal audio only for both Input and Output..

I'm a little confused about this. I Expected all audio tracks to have a blinking solid red button. The only time I see the red R is on the selected audio track if it is not record enabled.

Thanks

Wally
