Renting a movie on Apple TV is not working.
I click the rental button, then the Rent and Watch Now button as I usually do, and it just hangs. The status wheel just spins, endlessly, never making the connection.
Everything is up to date. I've logged in and out. I've restarted everything. My internet connection is fine.
It's been like this for days. What's the deal?
I've identified my issue. I had restrictions turned on so I wouldn't inadvertently rent or buy a movie. At first, everything worked fine, and when I went to rent a movie, it would ask me for the pin code I set up when I turned restrictions on in the settings. However, things stopped working a few weeks ago, and when I went to rent a movie, the app would just hang with the status wheel just spinning and not bringing up the pin code prompt.
I just turned restrictions off for rentals and purchases and everything works fine now -- movies rent with no issues. However, this is obviously a bug in the Apple TV OS which Apple should fix.

I have restriction on too, why should I take them off? Isn't a security in case your Apple TV is stolen ?!I have an Apple Tv 4th generation, and lately I have trouble to rent movies: the spinning wheel goes forever. I tried to sign out and sign back in, restart the Apple TV but the spinning wheel comes back every time when I choose to rent a movie. Eventually I have to go to my computer and rent it from there, transfer to my iPad and then airplay it: what a pain! This is the third time. My husband is getting tired and so we ended renting other movies from our Tv on demand.
