In the last couple of weeks I've noticed that when I send an iMessage from my iPhone 6 to my best friend, it first shows as delivered, as usual. She then reads it and it'll show as read. Then I'll go back into message later and it's turned back to delivered again, as tho the imessage hasn't been read at all.
Does anybody have an idea as to why its doing this?? Or what I can do to correct this???

What's frustrating is that if I don't happen to see the original "read" message right away and it then changes to delivered, I won't know that it was in fact read.
I'm having the the very same issue. iMessages shows delivered and then read. When I come back later, it's back to just delived. I really hope Apple looks into this issue.
Ive not found the solution but have found that if I manually adjust the time on my phone, and close settings and messages, it shows as read again. Then I just put the time back to automatic, and message still shows as read. just another temp fix. Obviously we don't want to keep playing with the time, but until it's properly sorted, that's what I'm doing
Hey bud I had the same issue ....i think I may have figured it out .....does the other person you text have the latest update of IOS? Im pretty sure my fiancé doesn't as she never updates anything lol ....anyway I'm pretty sure if you look into that it may fix the issue!!!
Mine started doing the same thing after upgrade. Had me thinking I was crazy for a while lol very annoying
the person I'm messaging that the status changes has def got latest iOS as I updated it!!!
I've found that if I don't close the message app I don't get the problem. Not ideal but a temporary solution until Apple sort it out
Well I've heard from my Apple advisor I was speaking to and he said that it seems a lot of people are having this issue (DUH!) and it is being investigated now by the engineers. If it turns out to be a operations fault there'll probably be a new software update with a fix on it and that should settle the matter. Or the other solution is going to be just the people who are having the problem are going to wake up one morning and it'll be fixed. He said he cannot say how long the process will take or anything but hope this puts some minds at ease!!!
Am having a same issue - Tried everything too fix it - Nothing works apart from small Temp Fixes.
I have tried everything to fix this. Just plain bugs me. Showed read then changed back to delivered. Annoying.
I Have this problem to, but the strange thing is, on my iPad which runs 9.3.1 I don't have this issue, all messages show the read time

Apple has yet to respond on this thread. They need to add this to their bug list.
Same problem here since the 9.3.1 update on an iPhone 6. Messages that were read don't always show as read. I've noticed that closing Messages from the background apps and then re-opening it SOMETIMES fixes this (that is, it updates the read receipts with the correct "read" time). Basically, it seems that the app is not visualizing the receipt properly even though the phone is receiving them.
I'm having the same issue also 😟 it drives you nuts! The other person doesn't even notice. But it doesn't happen when I text another friend on IMessage.
