iMessage read reports change from read to delivered

Disappointing!

Any news after iOS10? I didn't update. Issue persists? More feautures for iMessage with update, but no fix for this issue?

Are apple going to acknowledge this proble, it maybe be a small one, but the good thing about iMessage is it shows when your message has been read

I updated to iOS 10.0.2 and still have this problem. Un-freaking-believable.

I'm not sure if this has been noted before in this thread but I just realized that this is really only happening with ONE of my contacts. I have 3 contacts who I regularly message with who use read receipts, and 2 work without problem. Of course the one contact who I message the most is the one that gives me the disappearing read receipts. I tried turning read receipts on/off on both our phones, de/re-activating iMessage, and installing iOS 10.0.2 on both our phones. Still not working. Needless to say this is an important feature for us.

I've been an Apple user for over 20 years and while this is a fairly minor bug, it's amazing to me that they have not fixed it. I'm sure it wouldn't take a software engineer more than a day to get this fixed. It can't be that difficult considering that it worked for years without issue and still works on other devices.

Im having this exact same issue. It started when I had the iPhone 6 I just upgraded to the 7 plus and it's STILL DOING THE SAME THING!!!!! It's sooo annoying. Who do we need to talk to about this? it works perfectly on my MacBook but on my phone it's not working right. It would show read then 5 mins later it changes back to delivered.

Maybe you have messages that stay at the 'delivered' status (even though the other person might have read them) because that other person might have set Send Read Receipts to OFF (in Settings -> Messages)?? Although that does not explain why some people have reported seeing 'read' for a few minutes before it changing back to 'delivered'. I had the same problem with a number of my contacts but when I asked and they changed it back to ON, their iMessages went to 'read' instead of staying at 'delivered'.

I Read to restart phone,did it and worked for me.

I admit I skipped a few pages, but I didn't see reference to the following possible cause:

Similar to someone above, I notice this happens with one particular contact of mine (on her previous iPhone 6, and also on her iPhone 7).

I am often around when she receives texts from others. Half the time she opens the text in full (and gives a read receipt), other times she will use the slide down notification centre to read the text quickly (which I do not think gives a read receipt).

It might be possible that reading the message by way of pull down notification it is causing a read receipt to be sent initially, then revoked / unconfirmed (as the text hasn't actually been opened on the recipient end)?

Since coming across this thread I have not had a chance to try it out. My thoughts may be completely wrong, but it's just something I noticed with the one particular user whom i get this "glitch" from.

I Have this problem too.... I had it on my 5s and assumed it was the phone but I JUST bought a brand new 6s and it's still happening - makes me wonder if it's associated with my Apple ID as opposed to the phone... thoughts anyone?

Having this problem as well, but I have not noticing mine changing. Just staying delivered. Or if I send a test at 12am and 1am when someone reads it in the morning only the 12am text says "Read at 6:56" and the other one says delivered even though there is no way to open one and not the other. Patiently waiting for a fix, Apple.

This is my big question! If on a 6s or above is something to do with 3D Touch being used to have the pop up or is just the Notification Center like you suggest???

Is it intentional??? If so how do I duplicate it?
