every time i insert a disc it starts to run then kicks it out after about 30 seconds. It wont accept any type of disc I just up graded to snow leopard 10.6.8. Is there a firmware update for the cd dvd rom? I dont know what to do, this is my first mac Ibought it used and referbished

I did as you suggested it downloaded 7 updates then it says to finish installing these up dates you need to restart your computer it starts to restart and when it gets back to the space screen it freezes and does nothing

You can keep trying the cd lens cleaner. You might get it to work. Normally it will open Itunes. But most likely the optical drive needs to be replaced.

i don't know if I erased the hard drive,because my profile was still there. I did have a few updates I don't think there was 8-10
One of the updates is corupting. It would help to know what those update where. If one was the OSX combine update. You may need to get if from apple support downloads and updates instead.
