Logic Pro X won't read or recognize my midi keyboard. How can i fix this?

Ive been using the same set up for months now with no problems and now all of sudden nothing. The keyboard is plugged into the USB port, i have tried both ports, I've tried turing restarting the computer and Logic itself and nothing seems to be working. Please respond soon this is beginning to frustrate me

If that button lights up, The keyboard is using power which means the cable is fine.

Not necessarily. Your USB connector has 4 pins. A +5volt DC for power, a Ground, a Data + and a Data -.

Send signals will be sent down one pin, lets say Data +, receive through Data -. ONE of these cores could be damaged or broken, for arguments sake, lets say Data -. Your cable could be OK on power and receive but unable to send data.

Some functions would work whilst other functions wouldn't. The Ground could be off at one end along with it's neighbour (Data +). Use a cable tester or a known good cable to complete;y eliminate the USB cable.

I'm having this problem but slightly different. I only have one USB port available, i was using my Scarlett interface 2i2, disconnect it and connected my Arturia Minilab mkII like i've done before, this time it doesn't recognize it on Logic, the keys work but i don't get any sound, the chords appear in the bar. When i go to Preferences, Audio, i don't see the controller available on "Input Device" like it did before. This is so frustrating, i'm trying to finish a song and all of a sudden this happens.

Ahem. My experience is that MIDI is presently semi-hosed. I suspect the Mac OS X version is the culprit. My system was running rock solid on a Mac Pro with El Capitan loaded on it, MIDI included. Updating to 10.13.x is what I think caused the problem.

In my abbreviated experience on this MIDI issue, devices that require a driver don't work (even if the driver has been loaded).

Devices that are CLASS COMPLIANT (no driver needed) seem to just plug in and work, as they should.

If others can corroborate this MIDI failure, I think we have a potentially significant issue to address to Apple.

what kind of keyboard do you have?

First make sure you see the keyboard in the Audio Midi Setup of the Mac (OS X).

If it is there and online then -

Open Logic and choose custom in the display by clicking on the note up in display....

Then press a key and see if you see the note in the display...

If you don't see the notes change as in the above as you press various keys - let us know otherwise it is working...

I'm guessing either the operating system or Logic was upgraded between the time it worked and now? If you have OSX set to do automatic upgrades this is what can happen.

Unplugging the keyboard, is a good idea. Unplug the keyboard, restart the computer, let it settle then plug the keyboard back in.

If that doesn't work I'll post a method to delete Logic's preferences.
