Q: My iPod touch only shows a usb cable/iTunes logo on the screen

Thank you and sorry, this did not resolve my issue.   After connecting the iPod back to the computer, iTunes is not acknowledging the iPod now.   I'm still at square 1.    Do you have any additional advice?    I reconnected a few times, restarted iTunes, but no luck connecting to the iPod.     Thank you!

Thank you for all the advice. I tried most of them with no luck.  After spending an hour last night chatting with some very helpful team members from Apple and not having any success, I finally visited the Genius Bar and they were able to load the new IOS on my daughters iPod after a trying for a bit.   We are back in business.

Thank you, I ended up taking it in to the Apple store and they were able to get the ipod loaded with the new IOS and operational.   I must say, I was very impressed with both the Apple chat support and in store Genius Bar support.   Very customer focused.
