Safari and all browsers not opening Java Script Links - Seems like App Issue

I have 3 ipads and 1 iphone... A few days ago all but 1 of the ipads and my iphone started showing the same issues...

In safari or even with chrome on each affected device, Java script links no longer open. It freezes and becomes unresponsive then crashes.

This is the case from google search bar clicking on a link (and it is OK if I load in desktop request mode) and even from emails with links to a website.

Since 3 devices have the issue and 1 doesn't I am assuming it has to do with a bad app or app update (although never had anything like this happen before from an app.) The 9.2.1 software on the devices has been fine up until a few days ago when this happened

However with many apps on the devices I don't know which app or update is causing the issue. I tried to narrow it down without any luck.

I of course tries clearing the saved data soft rebooting and all that but the issue doe snot go away. Even with all apps swiped close it STILL happens. So maybe it is an app that loads something at startup.

Since I am not seeing any other instances of anything like this that also make sme assume it is an app. Does anyone have any suggestions... At the app store does anyone know if there are diagnostic tools to find an app that may be causing an issue?

Thank you!

Mike

I was told by Apple support team to:

- launch an iCloud backup

- restore iPad as new device and check whether the issue is here or not

- if not, restore through iCloud backup (not iTunes) and check

This method would bypass a potential problem within the iTunes backup (corruption, or other)

Did anyone try this already ?

Except that when you restore from iCloud and as a new device, aren't you downloading a clean iOS with non-corrupted system files, on which you will download the data that are in the cloud. When you are restoring from iTunes, ayou are restoring the whole, i.e. including corrupted system files if any.

That's what I was told anyway.

Did someone try? I understand plenty of people are against, but in this case let's be pragmatic, did someone experience this already ?

Just got a reply from an Apple engineer. They are working on resolving the issue in a next iOS update.

In the meantime there is a way to solve the issue.

Go into

Settings > Safari > Advanced

and turn off JavaScript

Go back to Safari and force close it (double click home button, swipe up Safari)

Now open Safari again and . . . url hyperlinks work again.

Obviously, this solution comes at the small inconvenience that websites using JavaScript will not be rendering in an optimal manner.

That is for the next iOS update.

Also contacted Apple Support and wasn't even told about the Java option, they just told me that it was a known issue with no current resolution that engineers are working on and would be addressed in a future update. I mentioned I rely on my iPhone to conduct business and have already lost countless hours trouble shooting as well as lost data when I rolled back to a previous backup. I got a 'we understand your concern' and that was it.

I may go pickup a Galaxy S7 this afternoon. Haven't been able to use mail correctly for 4 days now and there doesn't seem to be any real concern from Apple.
