Since updating to El Capitan it will not let my macbook pro won't shut down unless I hold the power button. Fix?

I updated to El Capitan yesterday and since I have not been able to shut down my macbook. The top bar disappears but I can still move the mouse and click on applications. The only way I can shut it down is by holding the power button! Is there any way this can be fixed?

MacBook Pro with Retina display, OS X Mavericks (10.9.5)

I'm having the exact same problem, which has been going on for a few weeks now. At some point I notice something funny, usually with Finder. For example, I'll open a folder and won't see all the files that I know are in there. Finder then either crashes or just continues to not work properly, and won't relaunch correctly. It remains 'not responding' until I hold down the power button to shut down. Shutting down/Restarting/Logging off through normal means doesn't work at this point. I've tried all the usual suspects like NVRAM.

Hi!

I had the same problem, but noticed that the problem was gone when I shut down the MBP from the external monitor I use (MBP lid closed). So i suspected the problem was mirroring. I hade both monitors running (open lid and external monitor on) and changed mirroring options, under system preferences-->display, to mirroring default (retina). Schabang!! problem solved :-)

Hope this helps
