When I receive a text message on my phone, I do not get a notification or the sound I've associated with texts. This started on my iPhone 5 two weeks ago and it continued with my new iPhone 6s. In the notification center I have "Allow Notifications" on, as well as, "Lock Screen" and "Show Previews." Since its continued into the new phone I'm certain I'm missing something in the settings but I can't figure out what could be.

Wow. We went through all the typical settings. I'm going to keep thinking, but again, I'm hoping someone else will chime in.
I'm actually toying with the idea of resetting the Network Settings. Can you think of anything that would hurt?
Resetting the Network Settings might help if you were having trouble connecting to wifi networks. It removes all the wireless credentials you’ve accumulated in your device over time. I can't see how it would hurt, but I'm also not sure it will help.

I saw, in another thread only about not getting the notification sound, that someone fixed a similar issues by turning bluetooth off and then on again. Or by making sure the physical switch on the iPhone is not off (the switch on the outside of the phone above the volume buttons). This all sounds too obvious. I think you have a deeper problem that I have not yet encountered.
Yeah, I tried those ideas. It might not hurt to try again, though
I have had the same problem twice in the last two days. I did a reset (power button and function button) and that fixed it. Not sure why this has just started. I have a 2 year old 5c.
I'm experiencing the same issue. Although resetting doesn't seem to solve the problem for me
If you're not receiving notifications from anyone sending you texts, this may not help, but...
I wasn't receiving notificatios of texts from my wife. When I selected the conversation with her, I clicked on the Details button in the upper right. There is a Do Not Dusturb setting for each conversation, and somehow, it was set to On for this one.
I was having this same problem, make sure your phone is up to date. I just updated mine and when it was finished updating a few text message notifications showed up on my lock screen and the red badge was back on the Messages app. Honestly, updating my phone was a last resort because I had no idea what to do so I figured I would give it a shot, and it worked! Hope it works for you, too!
I just found out, that if you mirror your iphone on watch (in the alerts), there will not be notification sounds on the phone.
Soft reset on phone and watch at the same time sorted this exact issue for me!
I experienced the same priblem of not getting notification sounds on my iPhone 5c 3 days ago. Now I am experiencing the same on my iPhone 6plus. How do I do a soft boot?
Would that also be the case with a iPhone and a iPad?
Did you check the silent switch on the side of the phone?
