iOS 9.3 Safari link freezes, crashes Safari

Every time I click on a link in Safari (be it google or on another page), the link goes gray and never opens. If I try pressing several times, the device is completely unresponsive. After about a minute, the Safari crashes.

Please help

I have the same problem with mail, Safari, and messages. Links work with the gmail app. Links work in Chrome but only with a long click to get the option to open in a new tab. It appears this has happened before with 9.2.1 but I could not find an answer that fixed the problem. I do not think it started until 24 hours after the update. iPhone 6s+ 128gb 9.3.

Just come off phone to Apple and was informed that the problem with the update 9.3 with Safari will be fixed in the next few days. In the meanwhile the only alternative is GO TO YOUR SETTINGS. GO TO SAFARI. GO DOWN PAGE TO ADVANCED. CLICK OFF JAVASCRIPT. Click back on Safari search...and then use the website search without Javascript on..yeah rubbish ! but told that in a few days javascript will automatically turn itself on witha new update to correct the problem.

I tried to restore the iPhone 6 as factory and soon after for a day of backup 19/03/2016. Soon after the restoration, the links in Safari worked, however, as the applications were being restored, the safari again gave trouble. Therefore this is not a solution.

Links on Whatsapp application also freeze the device. (Even disabling Java in Safari)

I think all the links that refer to Safari do freeze the iPhone.

Honestly Apple ...

And the worst. Still leave available to update the iOs to 9.3 knowing this problem! ×((

Ok here's the weird one i'm on a 5S, I cant, and haven't updated as I recently had to have to home button replaced due to damaged, and have been warned that it would get locked out if i updated.

But im also having the above issues, not sure how this will get resolved if the only fix is an updated!!!

which suggest the phone has some how updated parts of itself with out warning

it happened for me the night the clocks automatically went forward.

There is an Easter Sunday iPhone 6S 128G Fix All Links in Safari and via Apple Apps Working iOS 9.3

1) Bing Fix did not work

2) JavaScript disable / re-enable did not work

3) Turn on / off Content Blocking apps did not work

4) Multiple Hard Reset(s) no change

5) Never had Booking.com app can't remove

What worked is A Complete Factory Reset using with NO BACKUP. Meaning using an my iPhone 6S 128g is not a hardware issue. It is not an Apple update issue per se, it is some 3rd party apps that change or affect initialization of Safari via hyperlinks. It is a 3rd party App issue that was not caught in QA. Phone is restored with Keychain, but no 3rd party apps added. Did not restore, simply factory reset, and running iOS 9.3 all is working great...

I still believe it may be something to do with content blocking/apps, but really not sure. I just can't believe you can have 3rd party apps update how pop-ups and html code displays without causing a glitch after a significant upgrade...

Will begin slow process of updating app by critical app to see what did it. It is a true hassle to wipe every app off the phone...

GOOD LUCK

Dear All,

The following solved my safari links' issue on iPhone 6s & iPad Pro both running the latest ios 9.3:

Answer is copied from osxdaily:

"Disable Javascript in Safari for iOS as described here allows links to work in Safari again, but by sacrificing javascript functionality on the webbrowser, this is very much a workaround but it is the most reliable solution to get links to work in Safari (but not Mail)".

POSSIBLE SOLUTION FOUND!

After trying everything that was mentioned on all threads about the issue I have decided to try a stept by step approach and found this solution that so far works for me. Not sure if all steps MUST be done but this is what worked in my case:

1. Settings - General - Reset - Erase all content and settings (not a big issue for me because it's a brand new ipad air 2 bought 2 days ago 😟

2. Start the device, set up as a new device (no restore from icloud or itunes), no location services, no touch ID, selected a 4 digit passcode and chose not to enter any apple ID for the moment (selected "set up later in settings). Also I have selected the option to send diagnostic data to Apple and the devs.

3. So far, so good. Safari works like a charm for the moment and I will now try to add the icloud account and apple ID to see if it hold up.

I will get back to you after I try this.

edit 1: no problems after adding the icloud account.

edit 2:problem is BACK after turning on location services and installing some apps. RETRYING NOW to identify the exact issue.

edit 3: location services are NOT the problem

Well, this is most odd. Redid everything again and started installings one by one. Nothing happened. The last 3 I reistalled together and safari crashed (airbnb, imdb and booking). Either one of them is the issue, or the fact that I selected to install them in the same time. Back to work 🙂

edit 1: It seems to me that the booking app is crashing safari links. I did everything as before and only installed the booking app. Right after, safari stoped working normally. Not sure if it's a problem with the app itself or something specific to several apps, but it's a 100% corelation.

You're welcome Apple 😉
