iWantit wireless keyboard won't pair with iMac

I purchased a wireless keyboard yesterday. It's a brand called iWantit - but it won't pair with my iMac which runs in osx yosemite. It discovers it fine, then it'll say connected for a split second before coming up with "pairing failed" message. Also, the option to put in the pairing code only pops up for a tiny split second once every 20-30 attempts, or less often than that.

The troubleshooting steps I've tried:-

- done updates on Yosemite

- restarted iMac

- deleted anything else discoverable on imac

- turned the keyboard off and on again (it has a little off/on switch at the back)

Has anybody got any other recommendations?? Or have purchased same brand keyboard and not had the same issue??

Just like someone else, I was about to give up and go back to Currys when they said that the manual dropped out of the packaging, which said you have to press Fn and Esc at the same time to keyboard paired. The number 4 $ key lights up and the Mac detects the keyboard for pairing.

If only it said this somewhere where people who don't ever read manuals looks.!

And, I assume this is the one you got:

Take a look at the specs:

It is named a tablet keyboard with iOS compatibility; later it says Mac OS 10.7 or later, and further down it says the box contains an iPad tablet keyboard.

So, their description is not only confusing, but they don't appear to know what they are talking about. They need to get the specs listed correctly - is it compatible with iOS or Mac OS or both?

After playing with the keyboard for a bit due to the same problem, I got fed up and put it back in the box. As I did this, the manual fell out.

It turns out I was trying to pair it wrongly. To set the keyboard in pairing mode, one must press Fn+Esc. An LED will come on on the keyboard and this means it's in pairing mode. After this, rather than going to "Keyboard" under "Settings", go to the Bluetooth menu instead, the keyboard will be showing with the button to pair.

To me, it was the pressing of the Fn that was amiss.

Hope that helps.
