10.11.4 Safari freeze

Hi,

I have a MacBook Pro Retina 13" Mi-2015 since November and I didn't have any problems since the new El Capitan 10.11.4.

Indeed, Safari freeze randomly when I click on tabs and also freeze the entire computer. I can only hard reboot my Mac ...

Someone also have this problem ?

Thanks.

(Sorry, english is not my mother tongue)

Please add me to the flow chart of problem macs - I'm on a brand new MBP 15 retina...my second one in 2 days, I started having this issue with my previous brand new MBP 2 days ago when the fan revved up high (when I was doing nothing, basically), froze the computer, and from there never restarted again because of the black screen of death cycle. I took it to the *genius* after a day of trying every internet solution possible, he was able to grab my junk from the desktop and then had to reset the computer as brand new. I then returned it for a new unit...unstable and all that jazz.

Today, sitting here with my fresh out of plastic laptop, I have done nothing but download software to install (Evernote, Dropbox, Google Drive, Firefox, and Fetch)...Looked at a site or two online as I hate setting up new computers and was procrastinating. What do you know...computer freezes, fan is on...beach ball is out and ready to party. I think this CANNOT be happening to me again, so I try to wait out the beach ball and fan party, about 10 minutes before restarting. This time, I did what the dude at Apple did and went to recovery mode and reset the computer to factory. And do you know it's done it AGAIN. Second time in about 2 hours. I'm not a mac newbie. I'm replacing a 2009 MBP and at this rate, I'm pulling my slow clunker out of the drawer, because it's never misbehaved like this.

What the **** is wrong with these machines??!! This is ridiculous, I'm never going to get work done at this rate. When the guy reset mine yesterday, he thought it was a permissions issue... But I'm not sure. He didn't seem interested in diagnosing WHY it was happening, just sweeping it off and getting me out of there. Had I known I'd be setting up another appointment in a day, I would have asked more questions!

Hi chaps

I've just had a chat with a great Apple Supervisor who took a look at my MacBook Pro Retina 13 inch (early 2015) using online access and suggested ... download :

http://www.adwaremedic.com/index.php

and run the "SCAN" program. I had a piece of malware AD software in there which I took out and so far no problem re-occurring.

If you want to try it and report in ... please do.

I will report back if the problem returns.

Just a word of caution to those considering a rollback to 10.11.3 to get rid of the freezes. You are opening up a whole bunch of security holes by doing that. Apple has published the whole list of them here: About the security content of OS X El Capitan v10.11.4 and Security Update 2016-002 - Apple Support

Proceed with caution.

Interestingly, 10.11.4 contained security updates to the video drivers for Intel and NVIDIA, as well as IOGraphics. Perhaps those security updates contained some bugs that are causing the freezes.

Well, that's unfortunate, but I can't properly work if I my system might freeze at any moment. It's a situation with no optimal solution...

How about updating to 10.11.4 and replacing the Graphics Driver with the one from 10.11.3? I don't know how hard that would be with the new System Protecting thing in El Capitan.

Edit: I don't want to say that the update to the Graphics Drivers are definitely the issue here, but it might be worth considering.

Thanks for warning us.

That means that Apple should better find a bugfix for the freezing issue in 10.11.4 very soon and most of all start to communicate frankly and openly with their users so that they can upgrade their Mac's without to be frightened.

I'm almost sure that 10.11.4 still contains a bunch of security holes that will be fixed with OS X 10.11.5 and/or Security Update 2016-003. And almost certainly also OS X 10.11.5 will still have a bunch of security holes that will be fixed with OS X 10.11.6 and/or Security Update 2016-004 .

Proceed with caution.

Same problem here for about 1 week. Have opened only 3 tabs in safari... Safari freezes every 1-2 days, then macbook completely freezes and I must restart it. Quit and reopen safari doesn't help.

MacBook Pro Retina 15" (mid 2015)

2,2 GHz Intel Core i7 | 16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3 | Intel Iris Pro 1536 MB

- have only 1 addon in Safari (1Password)

- have latest version of El Capitan (10.11.4)

- I tried to reset SMC & PRAM

- I formated hard drive and made clean install of El Capitan without restoring from Time Machine

- don't using flash plugin

Waiting for solution...
