10.11.4 Safari freeze

Hi,

I have a MacBook Pro Retina 13" Mi-2015 since November and I didn't have any problems since the new El Capitan 10.11.4.

Indeed, Safari freeze randomly when I click on tabs and also freeze the entire computer. I can only hard reboot my Mac ...

Someone also have this problem ?

Thanks.

I have same problem. After 2 days from update to OS X 10.11.4 my MacBook Air (13-inch, Early 2015) begin completely freeze some time (1-2 hours) after Mac is turned on (usually once at the day). In most cases i remember that Safari was opened. Reinstall OS X from recovery in the end after other attempts - nothing helps. Now I read advice of people from other question in Apple Support Communities - try to use Chrome for a while. I really hope that Apple will fix this big problem as quickly as possible.

Just a 'me too'. iMac late 2009, macOS 10.12.2. Happens when in Safari. Mac keeps running but doesn't respond to mouse or keyboard. No plugins installed. Just did a clean install this week but that didn't help.

Have had this problem several times in the past with other versions of OS X on the same iMac. Never had this problem on my MacBook late 2008.

Extremely frustrating since the only solution is using the power button to shut if off.

Is there any way to get in contact with Apple when you no longer have official support or AppleCare?

I had contact with Apple Support today. Their advice was to disable both 'Allow plugins' in Safari / Preferences / Security and the 1Password extension in Safari / Preferences / Extensions. (I use macOS in Dutch, so I don't know the exact English terminology.)

The problem hasn't happened since.

In a few days I will enable both options again one by one to see which one causes the problem. I wil post the results here.

I have been having the same issue of late On my Mid 2009 MacBook Pro. Up until this point it has been a solid workhorse without the slightest hiccup.

Since the last update I've noticed that Safari randomly locks/freezes up and the rainbow wheel just keeps on spinning. I'm also having an issue with it using up all of my "available application memory" and have to force quit to get anywhere.

I also faced the same issue now with my MacBook Air 2014. Safari has always been listed in the application that were using significant energy and make the laptop extremely hot until the fan worked and it gradually made the MacBook to slow until it stuck. Every time, I have to wait around 15-20 minutes to wait it come back to normal mode when I don't want to do the hard shutdown of my MacBook. It is quite annoying.

I also face such problems for a long time in Sierra on my IMac Late 2009. My Macbook Air has no such problem.

I noticed that when I select default browser Safari or Safari Technology Preview, in 3-4 minutes later freezes all my Mac but mouse just moves, no any action.

If I deselect Safari from default browser, not freeze.

Please everybody try it and share opinion here.

1 Enable Safari's Debug Menu

1a Launch Terminal, located at /Applications/Utilities/Terminal and enter the following command:

defaults write com.apple.Safari IncludeInternalDebugMenu 1

Relaunch Safari. The new Debug menu will be available.

2 In the Debug menu, look for “drawing/compositing flags”, select "disable canvas accelerated drawing" and "disable full page accelerated drawing".

I have these two selected for some months now and had no more system freezes ever since.

macOS 10.12.6

Safari 10.1.2

10.11.4 Safari freeze
