I updated my Iphone 5 to IOS 9.3.1 about a week ago, whereafter the battery drained within 3-4 hours. I thought that the battery finally packed up and ordered a new one !
The problem still exists, now the battery lasts max. 5 hours.
Any solution apart from switching off many of the standard features ?

I have the same issue with my IPhone 6, battery goes from 50% to 1% just in minutes.

Try the Nuclear Option, a "DFU restore to a New Phone" per @robnbill's suggestion. Re: Re: Battery problem after update to IOS 9.3.1 It is not sufficient to erase all content. It is not sufficient to reset all settings. It is not sufficient to erase and restore from your most recent backup. It is not sufficient to try the usual "power saving" suggestions. And it even an update to iOS 10.x has no effect. Apparently there's something in Cloud settings from pre-9.3.1 iOS versions that when it meets 9.3.x has indigestion. Sorry.
It worked for me. I reported my initial findings in the immediately preceding post (page 10 of this thread). I promised an update. I have been slow to restore my software. I am only about half done restoring software, photos, and albums. But so far, I can go the entire day and use no more than 30% to 40% of my battery, even enabling background execution and location services that I had disabled in the misguided hope that I'd save some energy.

I did the DFU restore, but after that I did the restore from iCloud of my data. That´s why I´m having the same behavior (I think so)
I´ll try with this workaround and let you know:
1- Reset your Apple ID Password via appleid.apple.com
2- Turn off iCloud Keychain on all your iOS & OS X devices - reboot them

When you say the weather app is a power Hogg I can understand that however that should not cause the phone to shut down with 50% power remaining.
My ipod drains while on idle.in 7-8 hours
What have you done?
My Ipad was lasting a week on idle
My iphone 6s is constNtly on charger
What on earth have you done?
