iPhone se Bluetooth volume

I have a new iPhone SE, and I am experiencing something strange with the Bluetooth volume.

The audio output is fine when I am streaming music, but when I switch over to a phone call, the audio volume to my car is horrible. It's like a speaker that's being overdriven. Some words are clear, but many others are very scratchy and distorted, regardless of who I am talking to on the phone.

I do not experience this same problem over the built-in audio on the phone using either of its speaker outputs.

I have attempted to adjust the volume with the volume keys and software volume settings to no avail. The volume keys continue to adjust volume for music, even after the call is connected, making it impossible to turn down the call volume.

Amy help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Michael

I actually used the chat function on here yesterday to talk to an Apple rep. Here's a brief summary of what was said:

-I told her the specific problem and sent her a link to this thread. I told her I had reset and updated both the phone and the Ford Sync unit.

-She said that it hasn't been reported as a known issue yet.

-I asked her if she'd looked at the link to this thread.

-She acknowledged there are a few reports there but there are "millions of these devices around the world and there can be multiple reasons for this issue to happen on each one." She then told me to contact Ford about the problem.

-I told her I could do that but I know they'll just tell me to talk to Apple because Sync works fine with all other phones I've tested but the SE. I told her I felt Apple should be working to fix the problem and I'd have to return the phone if they couldn't get it fixed.

-All she could do was give me steps on how to do an iOS restore using iTunes.

So... I haven't done a restore with iTunes yet. I have done network setting resets and a full factory reset so I'm not holding out much hope that an iTunes restore is going to do anything. I really don't want an iPhone 6 but if they can't get it fixed before the return period is up at Verizon I'm going to have to get one I guess.

Let me reassure you that your experience couldn't be further from the truth.

I have been in conversation with a representative from Apple (Hi, Ashlyn!) for a number of days now, and can, without a doubt, assure you that Apple is taking this quite seriously. Bug reports HAVE been filed (by me), and Engineering has requested and has been receiving logs from a number of the individuals from this thread so they can actively investigate the cause of the issue.

AT NO POINT has ANY Apple employee suggested to me that I needed to, or would need to, reset or reinstall my phone's software regarding this issue. This problem is NOT being experienced only by users with MyFord Sync or any other specific brand of automobile software. This is happening with many different makes/models of vehicles as well as with handheld and/or worn Bluetooth devices.

This issue is being actively investigated and hopefully a fix will be coming soon.

Thank you.

I am also having the same issue. I love Apple products and I was so very excited to get the iPhone SE 64G Sim-Free (iOS 9.3) to replace my 5S that I drove 2 hours to the closest Apple Store on release day. I experienced the issue with distortion and scratchiness of the caller's voice on the way home from the store. Since then I've done all of the things that I read I should do like un-pair all of the phones from my car, forget the car Bluetooth connection in the SE and re-pair. I also turned Handoff and Siri off, did a hard reset, reset network settings, turned down the Bluetooth volume on the phone itself and updated to iOS 9.3.1. Nothing has helped. So today I chatted with someone from Apple Support who said I should take it in for repair. I refuse to take a $500.00 brand new phone in to have it repaired. That is just crazy! So...I'm returning it via mail. I may give the SE a try at a later time when I hear that the issue has been resolved...then again this whole thing has made me lose a bit of faith in the Apple name. I buy Apple products because they are generally seamless and work well. Not this time.

What year is your Mazda 6? I have a 2011 Nissan Cube. My iPhone 5S works flawlessly with the hands-free Bluetooth system...the brand new iPhone SE - not so much.

Also...when you say you have no audio problems, you are talking about actual phone calls, right? Music plays fine through my car Bluetooth connection with the SE. It's the call audio that is distorted and scratchy.

Having the same issue in the car. The volume is weak and the sound quality is just awful; it's reeeeeally scratchy and inaudible. All I know is I drove to Sprint last week with an iPhone 6 and no issues, got back in the car with the new SE and it was terrible. It took several tests to determine it was the phone; trying different numbers, pairing in another car, pairing a different phone in my car, etc.

My details:

  • iPhone SE - 64 GB, Silver
  • Carrier: Sprint (new)
  • Version: 9.3.1
  • Car: 2013 Ford Edge with Sync

I spoke with Apple this morning. They ran me through the same hoops; resetting the network and a restore, disconnecting and restoring the Bluetooth connection on the car. They finally suggested taking it in to an Apple Store. It's clear that they just do not have enough complaints yet. As I haven't owned the phone for even a week yet, I think my best bet is to return it and get a new one, if Sprint will let me. I don't know that this solves the issue, but I would imagine that returned faulty phones will get the point across.

Question for the forum: Apple said they had a similar issue in the past with the iphone 5 and Chryslers (?). When Apple gets their sh*t together, will the fix be a software fix or will it require a new device? Does anyone know how they've fixed these issues in the past? Should I give up now and go back to an older phone?

No one here has access to "apple's development team " - including me, as a level 8 long time poster on these forums.

I Have an iPhone SE and it pairs and works flawlessly with my automobile. The phone is NOT faulty and I doubt if there is a generalized software issue. I suggest that people with these sorts of problems contact the AUTO manufacturer for assistance.

Actually, though my wording may have been technically inaccurate, the information is basically correct. Its technically apple's engineering team that has been in contact with me and several others throughout both of these threads. We have provided apple with bluetooth logs using a special profile that was sent directly to us so our usage could be tracked to help them identify the problem. I don't have any need to prove myself to you, but I don't appreciate being called out for lying when I never do anything of the sort. Lying is reserved for individuals who stand to have something to gain from the action. I have nothing to gain by saying that in this forum, Mr. Hemphill. As for your level 8 qualification, congratulations. Your mother must be very proud.
