iPhone SE Bluetooth issues

I have a new iPhone SE and have so far paired it to a 2014 BMW 328i and a 2011 Kia Optima and a 2015 Kia Santa Fe. In all cases, I have terrible quality bluetooth call reception... the audio while on a phone call is extremely scratchy and distorted.

If I pair an iPhone 6S to each of these vehicles (same iOS version - 9.3.1), I do NOT experience these issues and calls are clear.

When I use the iPhone SE to make phone calls outside of Bluetooth, I have no issues and calls are clear.

This bluetooth issue on my iPhone SE does NOT impact Bluetooth music streaming. Only sounds scratchy / distorted with phone calls.

Apple, so far, is blaming the vehicle manufacturers despite there being multiple vehicle models and brands involved.

BMW and Kia state this must be an Apple problem.

Apple Genius bar is absolutely no help -- they state they can't report "software issues" to Apple and are only able to replace bad iPhones.

I'm at a complete loss as to how to get this to Apple's attention so they can fix the issue.

For now, I don't know what to do. All I know is that Bluetooth audio is very important to me in California since it is illegal to use your phone except in a hands free manner.

Anyone know how we can get this information to someone at Apple that can actually do something about it?

I just went to T-Mobile store and had to return the device since had 2 days left of 14 day period. Employee told me they don't know when they will get shipment of SE and directed me to Apple store, so I could buy the phone from them. I explained the situation with Bluetooth and manager waved restocking fee. By the way Apple store doesn't have them either 🙂

SO bought a new SE Friday last week, used it on hands free in 2 of my vehicles and it was perfect, not a single sound out of place. Updated the phone Sunday to 9.3.1 and now the hands free quality is absolutely shocking, I can't make out what the other person is saying. Have tried other devices and vehicles with no issues, only seems to be with theSE connected since the update.

any news on this, as i can't undo the update and the phone is pretty worthless to me if I can't use hands free??

Hi!

I will add Volvo XC70 m/2015 to the list of cars affected. I have also tried ALL the obvious restorings, resettering, repairings etc - no luck. Use Telia in Sweden as the carrier. Luckily I still have my old trusty 5S so I'll go back to that one while Apple sorts this out.

An official acknowledgment from them would be nice, though, as this causes safety issues while using your phone and driving.

Andrew le Apple if you're within the 14 day return period then the best advice I can give you is to return your 2 updated SE for any other 2 iPhones that do not have 9.3.1 installed. If you are able to return the phones do not restore your device from iCloud backup. This will force updating to 9.3.1 and the problem will have a high probability of following to your new device.

If you're outside of that timetable then like many others you are at the mercy of Apple.

Both my iPhone's SE had the same problems with Bluetooth before the updates as Ive never used iCloud, and both phones was from straight out the box had the problems. I did the updates on both phones to see if it would help with the problems but it never did. I returned them and went back to my iPhone 5 which I had to have fixed because I was told by the apple shop they have stopped selling the 5s.

Re: IPhone SE Bluetooth in car issue

I have scanned through the last 26 pages to discover that there a lot of people in the same boat as me.

the full restoring back to factory settings via ITunes has worked for me, this will install a fresh version of 9.3.1, and after which I installed my back up, phone now works perfectly, , hope this helps some of you

I have the same problem. Have an Iphone 6S. Everything i used to use before, without any problems, now doesnt work anymore.

Bose headphone's, Macbook Pro, Parrot minikit, JVC car unit, Netatmo. Nothing works anymore. "cant connect too...."
This is really annoying. Im using bluetooth appliences every day. And now ended up with a ticket for having the phone in my hand, because i have no bluetooth anymore.

I just read the comment from Jim, but does a factory reset via iTunes really install the firmware from scratch?

If the phone is already on the latest firmware, I don't think that iTunes does install the same version again, or am I wrong?

Doesn't iTunes leave the firmware untouched, if the phone is already running the latest one?
