Short recap:

We have 2 iphone 6 (but different storage) suffering from seriously bad wifi range and 1 ipad mini 2, before the update to iOS 9.3.x it was perfect.

We use a Apple Time Capsule ac wifi router, our macbooks have suffered 0 loss of range in the whole house.

To exclude external facturs, I rebooted the TC to factory settings, setup new networks, selected individual free available channels for both 2.4 and 5ghz etc.

I also restored my iphone to factory via itunes, via recovery boot mode, everything.

NO IMPROVEMENT

So I made a genius bar appointment here in NL to see what they would say.

They made a network in the store with an airport extreme and the range seemed decent. So they couldn't help me on the wifi related issue. Although the apple store is a pretty confined area as there are 0 other wifi networks in the store, which is impossible in the city center of The Hague. So they are shielding off any other networks around. So a decent range there is no surprise.

At home on ground floor level it is also decent, but 1 floor up destroys it. (wooden floors, no concrete here in an old house). The distance is max 4meters to the TC.

The standard diagnosis of the iphone revealed nothing.

When I pointed out that several tens of others have exactly the same problem after the update, I got twice a reply that they sell millions of iPhones so a select group on the internet means nothing. A ******, non professional reply in my opinion. We at least take the effort to make ourselves heard, probably the majority accepts it or didn't even realise a difference.

The other issue I discovered recently is that my GPS localisation is terrible on my iphone. It may or may not be related. When I showed them the position according to Maps or Google Maps, at first is looks ok as it was connected to wifi before. However, very soon it is off by several hundred meters all over the place.

This was pretty much ignored and they suggested I contact apple via Apple Care or Feedback.

Officially according to apple my iphone is Out of Warranty, luckily the 1 year is not legal here in NL and I get 2 via Dutch Law.

So does any of you have issues with their GPS localisation on the phone while NOT on wifi, please check.

Also, do you all have advanced routers like my Time Capsule? Maybe on a ****** standard network the issues are not so big as on more advanced (5gh ac wifi).

I will escalate this further via apple.com/feedback. Maybe we should all report it there!

I also had my iphone 6 since launch and never had this issue until 9.3.1. My phone has been handled with care since day 1. As soon as I updated, my wifi stopped working. Went to Apple Genius and the verdict is nothing they can do about it anymore and it needs replacing but I will neet to pay for a reconditioned phone for £229.00 (same model- so I imagine same problem again ). I thought I will think about it and join this group for some advice. I tried Scottyk2's advice to remove it from it's case which has a magnet and after a day it started working again. Thank goodness I saved £229.00 but mind you it's a month of stress and frustrations. I have been using the phone case with that magnet and no problem till the update. I hope Apple can sort out the problem. We are paying sky high and we deserve a good service and product in exchange.

I've had the same issue with 9.3.1 on two iPhone 6s, an iPhone 5, an iPad Air and an iPad Air 2. The devices think they are connect to wifi, but checking the info button of the wifi network shows that they only have DNS entires for IPv6. There is nothing in the rest of the settings - no IP address, subnet mask, router, etc. Renewing the lease, cycling wifi on the device, resetting network settings does nothing. The IPv6 entries from comcast were of the form 2001:558:feed::1.

I thought that I had fixed the issue by turning off QualityofService (QoS) for WiFi Multimedia (WMM) but I think it was actually just the act of rebooting the router that allowed those devices to connect. The weird part is that my parents just came to visit with iPhone 6+ models (running 9.3.1) and they had the same issue - IPv6 DNS addresses but nothing else, and the phone thinks it is connected to wifi. I did nothing other than power cycle the router again and then they could connect without issue.

So it wasn't an issue with the router which was fixed by the first power cycling, and the router is my own and hasn't had any changes or firmware updates, it was that somehow 9.3.1 got "jammed up" and couldn't get valid IP addresses until the router was reset after they first tried to connect.

Interestingly, my appleTV 4 also just had the same issue and it is connected by ethernet! Again, it only had IPv6 addresses. I had to power cycle the router before it could connect.

I would have suspected it was a Comcast issue, but I'm pretty sure you don't have them over in Europe. So this feels like an isolated Apple issue, perhaps tied to certain network hardware in certain devices. Our 3 various MacBooks and Mac Mini have had no issues, which is also true of all the non-Apple hardware (vizio tv, xbox one, tivo, etc). It is just the iOS 9.3.1 and tvOS 2.2 devices.

Hopefully a fix is coming in 9.3.2. This isn't quite as dramatic as the 8.0.1 phone-breaker bug (or the 9.2 lost-all-pop-email bug if you happen to use that), but it has definitely hit a portion of the Apple user base in a big way.

I think you hit it. Well just have to wait for 9.3.2. I'm using an Apple Time Capsule for my router. I get the same problems you reported. No DNS or Router address showing and a spinning connecting wheel. I also noticed one of my Airport Express had disconnected despite showing a steady green light although that might be a completely separate issue.

Make sure that we all report it to Apple using their feedback portal.

I have the same issue, but with an old Ipad 2 3g 64GB GSM model, it has 9.3.1 on board, and I have reset today it completely, and now I can`t verify my Apple ID even! It won`t connect to server, says some issues with authentication on Apple server! Apple! Please help, or at least give us a way to downgrade to the working iOS firmware! I`m crying here (

I Personally can connect to wifi but I have to be a lot closer to any router than usual. I didn't update my iPad Mini and I can connect from the usual distance with good signal strength, but my iPhone 6 has weaker connection to any router. So that means there are times where I should be connecting but I'm out of the new range. I know that kind of sounds like a router issue but I've had the same problem at my place and multiple friends houses. It's like all wireless connections to my device are weak now, wifi *****, Bluetooth (can be in the bathroom together with a Bluetooth speaker and it usually disconnects at least once for no reason and the range isn't as great as it was before the update, and my location services have been incorrect since the update. when using my two factor authentication to login here to post, it showed I was located in Nashville (im really near Detroit, Michigan). It's not usually that bad, usually within the same city or a few blocks from where I am, it varies. I hope the next update fixes this, makes using my phone for GPS pretty difficult.

Well here's a strange thing. I've been messing around with setting up an Airport Express and was going through all the settings when I realised I wasn't using the 5ghz network. So I've got that all up and running and, after a very long struggle, eventually the iPhone 6 connected to it. Not easily initially I can tell you. But I also noticed that in the iPhone wifi settings the lease period is set to renew automatically every 15 mins. The longest option is one year which I've now set it on. And so far it's been connected without a break for quite a while. Not saying it's the cure yet, and not sure if it's the lease or 5ghz that's making the difference! My gut feeling is it could be the lease renewal. I didn't time my wifi drops but 15 min gaps could well be about right when it's at its worse.

So I'll monitor this over the next few days and report back.

This is an issue with the iPhone so ignore anyone who suggests otherwise. In my case it's an iPhone 6 running 9.3.1.

Wifi drops out continually, iPhone fails to reconnect automatically, iPhone asks for my wifi password repeatedly with no results, and, iPhone is unable to join my network.

I have restarted my router, which works perfectly fine for my laptop and all my guests android phones anyway.

I have restarted my iPhone and reset the network settings, etc - all with no improvement. This advice is all noise - the issue is either the software or the iPhone. It appears to be the software.

This is evidenced by all the other similar posts here and elsewhere on the web. A growing number of very annoyed iPhone users.

What is completely disgusting, is that Apple have been made aware, for nearly two months now, that key functionality on their product has been rendered unusable but they have done NOTHING to fix it. Apple for reliability? Ppffff. This long-time Customer is ready for walking out of sheer frustration. Pull your finger out Apple. No wonder your share price and market share are falling.

Out of the big three software providers - Apple, Linux and Windows - Apple is the only one with both hardware and software under their full control and so have the least excuse for the poor quality of their software upgrades.

When I took my iPhone 4S with no Wifi due to the iOS 9.3.1 upgrade to the Apple Store Genius, it was reasonably obvious from the body language of the Technician that he didn't believe it was a hardware problem either, but, due to Apple's apparent fear of admitting there is a problem and working together to solve it - as Linux does - he was obliged to sing from the official song sheet.

Somewhat against my better judgement, I ordered an iPhone 5SE to replace the 4S, which promised a 2-3 week delivery and now, 19 days later, the order is still being processed.

As said above, it's no surprise Apple's market share is falling.

Yes we're all well aware of what it is. it's a problem with the OS not the phone, and they've been having similar issues with a variety of iphone models a lot longer than you said. Since iOS 8 in fact. And it's so random as to who's affected that it's hard to pin down a problem when the bulk of users don't have any issues. Lots of times just upgrading the OS can lead to more problems. A certain amount of housekeeping and maintenance is sometimes needed. Plenty of people could have identical laptops but they'll all perform differently. Clean installs are sometimes are needed (not in this particular case though). No different to a computer, afterall a smart phone is actually a mini computer with phone like functionality's, and it's sometimes a pain in the ***. As I've already posted I didn't have this at all in previous iOS versions, but many did so sometimes we have to work around something and help narrow down a fault. My phones now been connected without a single drop, I can disconnect it and it reconnects immediately. I'm only guessing but this lease renewal thing might actually be the fix.

The electric window switch for my drivers door no longer auto winds the window. I have to hold the switch now. It's a 2 year old car. It shouldn't happen to a VW! But it has, what can I do? It's under warranty so will be replaced free, and you can have a replacement iOS free too. The more complex we want our devices the more vulnerable they are to these things. It shouldn't happen but it does. It's the way of technology.

May 11, 2016 6:40 AM in response to finepiks

My iPhone 4S can see all of the available WiFi networks, it just can't join any of them (including the one at the Apple Store) so the lease is not the problem.

I disagree that sometimes a clean install is necessary - this is a sign of a poor OS. If you've ever tried linux, you'll see it's possible for an OS to run for literally years without even needing a reboot.

My feeling is that a clean install is the easiest thing for an Apple Technician to suggest rather than following a step-by-step logical troubleshooting process that might identify the root cause of the problem.
