Wifi problems ios 9.3.1

My iphone does not connect to wifi after ios 9.3.1. Is there a fix available? Thanks, Karl.

I agree a clean install not usually necessary. I did it because I was running out of options. And the issue didn't go away. It was dropping wifi constantly and most times wouldn't reconnect unless I toggled the wifi on/off. All I've changed is logging into the 5ghz freq range and changed the leasing interval. It's now 4 hours without a drop. Not a very long time I know, but prior to that it was doing it constantly, at intervals of what seemed like only a few minutes apart. So you tell me? If it doesn't last I'll let you know but so far so good - what can I tell you!! It's worth a try at least for those that can do It.

I have 100% resolved my issue by getting a new router. I had been using an Arris SBG6782-AC gateway, which acted as cable modem, router, wifi and moca access point. After wasting some time with Arris and Comcast (which did result in improved downstream signal levels at home, but that wasn't the real issue) I figured out that the Arris gateway was having issues about 1/4 the time when a device connected. This wasn't showing up in the immobile devices at home which were basically always connected, but the mobile devices like iPhones and iPads would get into a state where the gateway wasn't giving them IPv4 addresses and allowing them to send and receive data. The only way to resolve the issue was to reboot the gateway.

One important detail was that the issue did show up in a windows notebook and an android phone which I tried to connect to my wifi, so it wasn't in any way Apple-specific.

I switched the network back to the old time capsule that I had, and the issue went away. I got a new Airport Extreme and the problems continue to be gone.

The Comcast tech who was at my house said something about Apple and cable providers trying to move towards IPv6 and how they have conflicting ideas about implementation. Because any device in your home which acts as a cable modem can have its firmware and provisioning changed by the cable company at any time, you can't really be sure that a combined modem + wifi router is going to behave as expected. The comcast tech strongly recommended keeping your devices separate, which I am now doing and no longer having the connection problems.

Hopefully this info helps someone out there.

OK, my apologies folks as I've given a slightly misleading answer earlier. The lease renewal period setting is actually in my Apple Time Capsule Router not the iPhone, which I was setting up via the Airport Utility app on my iPhone, hence my mistake in thinking it was a phone setting. On the phone all I've done is use the 5ghz channels.

In Airport Utility app click on the router, click edit, enter your password and then click Edit at top right. Click the advanced tab and at the top of the list is DHCP and NAT. Click on that and there you can change the lease period.

It's now about 13 hours since without a single wifi drop. I'd have to conclude that has solved my issue. Why? No idea! But it has.

As you'll see in my last post my TC router seems to be partly to blame. However it doesn't affect my iPad Air (1st gen) also running iOS 9.3.1, or my wife's android phone. So there's obviously some sort of handshake issue going on, but that's where my technical knowledge ends. All I know is it's worked for me so now I'm just going to stop fiddling with things and leave as is!!

Cool, I have changed the lease interval, ours was 1 day.

One thing I have noticed as well with our Time Capsule, that both on iOS and OSX devices, the shadow network is visible. So our router is sending out a non-accessible network with a weird name like HZN1420401 , in our case 2 as we have the 2.4 and 5ghz enabled.

This seems new to me as well, as they were hidden before. Although I am not sure it came together with the update to ios 9.3.x.

I googled and apparently this is relatively common to have a shadow network to the main network broadcasted.

The funny thing is that when we loose connection with our iOS devices to the wifi networks, the shadow networks still show as within range. Although we cannot log into those with our password.

Very weird.

I am tempted to buy a brand new Time Capsule, just to check if the problems would be gone. Our TC is an AC wifi version, a bit over 2 years old.

Still silly that the router would only cause trouble with the latest iOS version, as the firmware hasn't changed in years and nothing newer is available.

Funnily enough my last TC (last of the flat type) packed up (failed power circuitry) just recently and I had to get the latest tall model. The setup was very smooth as always and I left things on default settings mostly. Hence why I'd forgotten about the 5ghz freq range. But the iOS 9.3.1 update came after I'd bought it so I'm still a bit baffled! But it's now heading for 24 hours unbroken wifi connectivity. By now it would have disconnected at least 20-30 times or more. So I'm definitely of the opinion I'm sorted - and likely I'll never really know why either!!

Incidentally the iPhone 6 is the least reliable of all with them having a 25% failure rate (battery problems, touch issues, camera faults, home buttons etc)! iPhone 5s has a failure rate of 17% by contrast.

Apple need to patch this. Following updates to my iphone 6 (9.3.1) and iPad Air 2 (9.3.1) i am dropping connection to my wireless router every few minutes. To say it is frustrating is an understatement. This is a bug introduced with the latest release of IOS and needs fixing asap. Can anyone point me in the direction of a statement or press release admitting the technical issue, or Apple staying silent?

This is an issue with the iPhone so ignore anyone who suggests otherwise. In my case it's an iPhone 6 running 9.3.1.

Wifi drops out continually, iPhone fails to reconnect automatically, iPhone asks for my wifi password repeatedly with no results, and, iPhone is unable to join my network.

I have restarted my router, which works perfectly fine for my laptop and all my guests android phones anyway.

I have restarted my iPhone and reset the network settings, restoring my phone. etc - all with zero improvement. This advice is all noise - the issue is either the software or the iPhone. It certainly appears to be the software.

This is evidenced by all the other similar posts here and elsewhere on the web. A growing number of very annoyed iPhone users.

What is completely disgusting, is that Apple have been made aware, for nearly two months now (b, that key functionality on their product has been rendered unusable but they have done NOTHING to fix it. Apple for reliability? Ppffff. This long-time Customer is ready for walking out of sheer frustration. Pull your finger out Apple. No wonder your share price and market share are falling.

Saying its a hardware issue is not acceptable. It's an issue that has hit multiple iPhone models - all since 9.3.1. I now have zero wifi with a phone that is only 16 months old.

Hoots Mon!! You just made an almost identical post. I'm not here to apologise for Apple, quite the opposite, but you've already seen two people here out of actually a very small number of folks in this particular 5 page thread that have managed to solve their issues properly. And I have an iPhone 6 with iOS 9.3.1. so despite your comments I suspect you havnt exhausted all your options in attempting to sort it.

Yes it's frustrating, we shouldn't really have to do this, but we've become a blame culture always looking to point a finger instead of accepting that the more complex things become, the more we want new features, this is sometimes the price we have to pay! Be grateful you dont own a Samusung Galaxy S6 or S5. Thier Q1 failure rate % is 44%!!

My iPhone 6 has now been enjoying unbroken wifi now for 36 hours so my problems are solved!! Why don't you thoroughly read through mine and Mattemathijs posts and try what we've done.

Thans for your support mate.

Do I appreciate the help of strangers? Totally!!

Should it come to this? No way!

Have I tried every soloution proposed on this and every other website? Honestly, yes, thoroughly. This has also caused additional problems with the app's for which I was registered and approved my my works IT dept .eg. my RSA token. More time and effort wasted on my part.

Is there a large number of people reporting exactly the same problem on various other posts here plus other websites? Yes, this appears to be widespread over a fairly long timescale across multiple models of the iPhone. It's also why I posted this again on just one of the many other replicate threads.

Did I enjoy the cheaper price of a Samsung? No!!

Did I pay Apple's premium price expecting the 'reliability' of an iPhone? Totally did mate. Feel like a complete chump now..

As you rightly say, we shoudn't have to do this. But, can I blame a manufacturer for ruining the functionality they promoted and I purchased (and used to enjoy)? **** right. That's not a blame culture issue - that is a justified comment about a substandard service/product.

I'm glad you've now had successs for a whole day and a half, but, honestly, even makng a claim like that shows how utterley ridiculous this sitution has become.

Have Apple even commented on this issue? Nope!

Have Apple cost me a fortune in 4G usage as wifi is unavailable? Yep!!

How many billions in Apple profit did I contribute to last financial year? Don't want to know.

How do I feel as a 'valued returning and long time Customer'? Have a guess!

May 12, 2016 6:51 PM in response to stewartfraescotland

I hear you. Yes it is ridiculous that I'm jumping for joy at a mere 36 hours! But until this point I've never had any issue like this before, having been through all the various non S iPhone versions, and doubtless will be getting the iPhone 7 later this year too. I've had my share of other issues too - my iMAC needed a new screen after getting the documented dust ingress and marks on the screen, but it's been running faultlessly for 4 years now other than that, and to be fair to Apple they sorted it out via Applecare on site and was very well done too by their technician. My Time Capsule (new refurb) blew it's power supply circuit board one month out of warranty. Non repairable so at least I got a 2tb HDD out of it before the rest was just thrown away!! A previous Time Capsule also eventually died but that was over 3 years old and was the HDD that failed. The home button of my iPhone 5 gooed up as usual but I can't really blame Apple for my sweaty fingers!!

Yes Apple shares are falling due to lower demand, but that's not because of faults or issues - it's the overall slowdown in China that's largely to blame, and China's tightening of the anti western screw under Mr Xi.

I've quit complaining about stuff, especially here as Apple don't actually monitor these boards, but I just look for solutions instead and report any success which might benefit some, even if not all, since what choice do we actually really have? Venting our spleen's doesn't fix it!! I could never go back to Windows or use droid so here I am!! In an ideal world I'd have a Hackintosh (and still might) since the only thing I miss about PC is choosing my own components like I did when I used to build my own PC's before getting so tired of "Regedit" and certain Windows update features!! I have to use a PC laptop occasionally and all it does is remind me just why I switched to Apple 10 years ago!!

You must report it using the feedback form. It's not much I know but the more reports they get then the more likely they are to look at it. I've not heard wifi connectivity mentioned in the first looks at the 9.3.2 beta releases, but that's not to say it's not part of it? Like I said my 2 year old VW Golf electric window switch failed and that's a 20,000 pound car!! Minor thing really but still!!

But this all said I do totally agree that Apple has taken on a different and disappointing direction since Mr Cook took over, and one that's far more consumer oriented. Why, oh why, did they drop the RAID options from the 10.11.4 DiskUtility app? It's just ridiculous that now you can only do it via terminal!!

Sigh!!
