How do I stop the Music app from opening on my iPhone when I plug in my headphones?

I've got an iPhone 6 running the latest software. I've noticed since a few updates ago that when I plus in my headphones the Music app opens, even when the phone is locked. I find this really irritating, as there are obviously a lot of other reasons I would plug in my headphones other than to use that app. It also opens to the same song each time (first song alphabetically), instead of something more logical like the last song I listened to.

In any case, I have to assume Apple developers wouldn't create this without a way to turn it off - anyone know how?

(This is almost as annoying as the time they assumed everyone wanted a free U2 album in their music library. Please don't make assumptions on my behalf!)

This has to be one of my favorite iOS bugs, especially because apple is all about the experience of music...

Here is my automatic music playing experience on my iphone 6.

I get into my car, connect my iphone via BT and make a call. Then as soon as the person answers, I hear them with a random song playing like an underscore while I try to talk to them. The best part is I can't stop the song from playing. Oh, I see the mini player but its pause button won't respond to my touch until I end the call.

After trying the majority of suggestions on this thread. The best solution I could find was to delete all my music from my iPhone and use Spotify or Amazon Prime which apple won't let autoplay.

Of course, the music app still opens whenever I attach my apple headphones or attach it to a bluetooth speaker/car. But since there is no music to play it just looks stupid instead of me.

Apple please stop adding useless features until you can get the core features of your phones to work reliably. Phone first of features are second.

I am also having the same problem and am VERY frustrated. It is dropping my calls and will then start playing music to which I have to shut down the phone, turn it back on, and go through the same process only to have it drop ANOTHER call. I can't sit the phone in my pocket, in my purse, b/c it will randomly shut off or start playing music. To make matters worse, no Apple technician has addressed the issue. It is not only frustrating to the person I am speaking with on the phone but it is also costing me battery life.

I saw where Apple is no longer phasing out older battery phones but if this is their response to it in an attempt for us to purchase a newer phone then I'm out. This is bad business and shady. They'll need to charge more than 1k for their next iPhone if they plan on getting anyone to buy it if this is how they treat their customers. Good luck. #applefail #horriblecustomerservice #shadyaf

No such luck for me - I have been banging my head against this Music default auto play 'feature' for over a year now, it's apparently been an issue for users for more than 5 years - every time my iPhone (6, 11.3.1) gets in range of the Bluetooth receiver in my car (Tune 2 Air) it launches the Music app - even if the car is off and/or the ipod input is not selected.

I did the dodge of putting in a long silent track called AAutoplay, so I don't get blasted with the same song every time, but I'd love a cleaner solution.

This will happen even if I have Pandora running on the phone when I get in - if Pandora isn't actively playing, Music will appear on the Lock screen.

I'm trying to find out if there's a way to configure the connection from the vehicle end - I do have steering wheel controls that will work to skip forward (and back, in Music), but no joy so far there, either.

Is Apple going to add a Autoplay On/Off for their Apple Music App or Not??? I want to listen to something besides music on my radio like stream talk shows, etc, but I can’t because it pauses and as soon as I press play button the music app plays music instead and it’s impossible to turn off the stupid music app because it will just turn on again by itself. Ugh.. if it wasn’t a company phone I’d throw it off a cliff after I poured gasoline on it and burned the Android wannabe... missing my HTC One :(

iphone 8 = garbage!

Exact same issue on iphone X and latest Ipad, I can be watching something and all of a sudden what i'm watching halts and some random song from my playlist starts to play, it is highly annoying, i don't want to remove music app as i have some albums and things i like to listen to, but there MUST be a way to prevent it just deciding to start to play something randomly! come on apple that cannot be hard to have a enable or disable option for that happening! fix it !
