Garageband 10.1.1 Issue

Hi, I recently updated Garageband and now instruments from MainStage 3 no longer appear. I can't find Garageband's instrument library anywhere. I've tried Library/Application Support/Garageband and Library/Application Support/Logic (I do not own Logic Pro). Please help !

Mac mini, OS X Yosemite (10.10.5)

I have the same problem. I'm on a Mac mini with OS X El Capitan. I just updated to the newest GarageBand only to find that my MainStage 3 instruments have disappeared. The strange thing is, any projects using the instruments continue to play perfectly with them, but they don't appear in the sidebar. MainStage 3 continues to play them and show them in the sidebar. Also, MainStage lists them as downloaded in the download manager, and I can find the instruments at /Library/Application Support/GarageBand/Instrument Library/Sampler/Sampler Instruments.

Did you uninstall GarageBand '11 before you upgraded GarageBand to version 10.1.1?

The instruments I installed using MainStage are showing for me still in the Legacy section of the library. When I select a software instrument track and then click "Legacy" in the Instrument Library, I am seeing all the JamPacks, that I installed using MainStage.

If the instruments do no longer show in GarageBand, try to run MainStage to download them again:

Launch MainStage, then go to the main menu bar and use the command "MainStage > Download additional Content". This will open a panel to download and install the additional content again.

[EDIT: Looks like the other user posted just before me! Sorry for the almost exact repetition.]

I'm not talking about the Jam Packs. They appear fine. I'm talking about the "modern" instruments that, when downloaded via MainStage, appear in the normal instrument categories.

After updating, I get the Legacy stuff but not the rest. I don't want to settle for only the Legacy stuff because some of the instruments I once had aren't in Legacy. Also, the Legacy ones are... well, legacy, so each "playing technique" is a separate instrument and sometimes playing techniques aren't included at all. I just want GarageBand to be back how it was.

Those arrows only appear if things are missing.

And they started to miss after the update and now, hours later, the arrows are appearing as an invitation to download the updated content.

GarageBand's instrument library is still /Library/Application Support/GarageBand/Instrument Library/

But the z1 arpeggiator is installed directly in the Garageband application bundle.

/Applications/GarageBand.app/Contents/Resources/Patches/Instrument/z01 Arpeggiator/

And i found the synthesizer patches also only in the GarageBand application bundle:

/Applications/GarageBand.app/Contents/Resources/Patches/Instrument/Synthesizer/P ad/

as well as in the Logic folder: /Library/Application Support/Logic/Patches/Instrument/Synthesizer/Pad/

I have this issue to, and so far can't figure anything out.

I do wonder if it was a mistake that they ever showed up at all, some were buggy, and some didn't work at all for me, but the pianos worked great, and I would love to get them back showing up.

In the meantime I'm pretty sure that all of the actual instrument generators are available in the legacy categories, so you would just need to find out what filters were added to make the patch. (possibly by checking in MainStage)

Caleb_P - if you look in the jam pack categories you should be able to find a consolidated version (without Xtra in the title) of all the instruments that have various styles, (ie. staccato, legato, etc... ) when using them, you can use the modulation wheel on your keyboard to switch between those styles, and the 'Orchestra string' ensemble and sections have two more styles (half and whole step trills) than the 'Modern' string patches did.

After calling Apple support, I was told to select GarageBand -> Sound Library -> Download All Available Sounds. It started a five gig download on some drum kits that I'd never bothered downloading, but at my protesting that I was looking for instruments I'd already installed, I was told that that command also reindexes the instruments. The download isn't finished yet (and won't be for a calculated two hours), but when it is, I'll let everyone know if the instruments have returned.
