iPad Pro 9.7 Random Restart

Normally wouldn't think much of this but, I have a 2 day old iPad Pro 9.7 128GB that has restart on me twice so far. In the middle of using it, it will cut to the Apple logo on the black background for a minute before returning to the passcode screen. Oddly enough, it will accept Touch ID in place of a passcode, something it doesn't usually do when it loses power. Any idea on the cause or how to figure it out? I chatted with the tech support but they only help they could provide was to do a restore. I just performed it, but my concern is that I installed an app or enabled something causing the iPad to crash and it'll simply continue to do that due to the bad app.

My random restarts stopped with 10.2 but this ipad has multiple problems. The only things the techs can tell you to do is to factory reset. The problems keep changing. One time it was freezing and now pages in Safari turn white. Apple won't admit that these ipads are defective. They will do nothing except factory resets. How many times do you need to reset the iPad to get it to work for awhile until Apple admits there is a problem..They won't admit any of their products are defective.

this is getting weirder and weirder....

can you remember if Safari was in the background when the crash happened?

ALso, after the restart, were your apps still showing in the background?

I am on 9.3.5 and no crash since

BEfore on 9.3.4 i had crashes almost every day, but only with safari enabled.

can you disable safari - use chrome instead for a while and see what happens?

Yeah, Safari may have been in the background, but if it was it wasn't using the 'go back' tab on it. The 'go back' was used after I was in the Contact file which now lets you tap on a address on file and sends you to the Map file with a 'go back' tab at the left. When I tapped tha 'go back' to Contact file that's when the crash happened. Unlike the other crashes we've been having this one tried to 'go to' the whole screen had a spinning machine but then gave up and displayed a log on. No Apple display. That's the only crash I've seen since iOS 10. So things are working a lot more than before!!!

Hummm, I take back calling my previous response a 'crash'. As I said it though, it was a crash because I was tapping the Go Back so it would go back to the Apple Contact from the Apple Map file. I think now that it was just a crash on the Apple Map app. The reason is due to my being on the Map app, by itself, and it crashed exactly the same as when I was using the 'go back' tab. So, I haven't had a crash on my iPad Pro 9.7 since converting to iOS 10!!

OKay, so here I am on iOS 9.3.5, and no springboard crashes since I upgraded from 9.3.4. Before that, I thought this will never be fixed. And in the same time, I get daily notifications urging me to upgrade to iOS 10. (it did already downloaded it in the packground, without asking me, ***). I am afraid that I go to iOS 10 the Safari related springboard crashes during task switching will come back.

SO... is it safe to go iOS 10.. any reports of crashes on 10 ??

Sep 29, 2016 9:21 AM in response to locsei

i use to have one crash per day on IOS 9. Since i upgrade to 10 i had two crashes on the first version.

But since i'm on 10.0.2 i didn't experience a single crash. And it's been at least a week i believe.

So for sure it was fixed (for me), or improve dramatically.

I haven't change anything in my apps or the way i use it (safari etc).

Hope other experience the same.

OKay, so I have upgraded to iOS 10.0.2. As soon as I have the first springboard crash involving Safari or not in the background, I will report back. I have resisted quite a bit upgrading from 9.3.5, which seemed to cure the crashes for me, but daily popups nagging me to upgrade are quite annoying. Anyway, fingers crossed.
