I phone 6 Oticon Streamer Pro 1.3 contection problems

I use the Oticon Streamer Pro 1.3 to connect to my iPhone 6.

I had problems with with my streamer connecting to my iPhone.

After updating the Ios my Streamer has dropped calls, switched from the streamer to the Iphone in the middle of the call, and it would also start streaming music.

After several weeks of trying to get Oticon to respond and a visit to my Audiologist. I found out the problem was with that new Ios was causing these problems.

Is there anyone at Apple that is aware of these problems.

It is very annoying that Oticon has known about these problem but will not share this vital information with the users of their products.

Thanks,

Michael Carney

Hi Michael,

I work at an audiology practice and we have had patients with the same problem. You need to update the firmware on your streamer. Oticon is aware of the issue but I don't think they have come out fully about it and are relying on folks like us to do the outreach. I would contact the office where you purchased your streamer and ask them about an update as they should be aware of this and have a quick fix for you at your next appointment.]

Take care,

Sam

Thanks for your response, Sam. I posted earlier that I have the same problem with an Apple 6 iphone and an Oticon streamer. I did have my audiologist send my streamer back to Oticon for an update because of the problem and it came back not fixed. The only thing that is working for me is the newer loaner streamer that he let me use while mine was being fixed. No problem at all with it. I'm hoping he'll let me keep the newer one and that he can return the older (not very old, as just purchased about two years ago) to Oticon for a refund.

I took this excellent advice and took my Streamer to the audiologist for updating the firmware. She took it to 1.3 (it's an older Streamer), then I restored the iPhone 6s Plus and re-paired the Streamer with it. At first I thought it had solved the problem, getting a call that went 4 minutes without jumping back and forth between iPhone and Streamer. But subsequent calls went right back to the same old thing, switching every minute or so. It looked like I was going to have to use a cable to make the connection.

So I looked into the user's manual for the Streamer to see how to do that, and I came across a note about clearing any pairings the Streamer had. I wondered if maybe there was some lingering miscommunication issues from those old pairings that hadn't entirely been cleaned out by the new one. So I followed the instructions for clearing old pairings (hold down the on/off button and the up-volume button together for 3 seconds), then did a new pairing with the iPhone, and that seems to have done the trick. I've now had five phone calls without a single incident of switching from phone to Streamer. I'm cautiously optimistic that my troubles may be over.

Hi, yes I have the same problem and Oticon blew me off too! They offered only one way that it might connect and stay connected but then stated it won't always work. Of course nothing they offered did help and they said to have my Audiologist work with me! I'm a tech and I can tell you my Audiologist know a great deal less than I when it comes to the software issues that Oticon has. I wish Apple would work with them to resolve this issue so I can utilize my Streamers with all my Apple products!

It appears many are not aware of this fix. It has worked for many of us on this thread:

On
I-Phone

  • Go
to Bluetooth settings and hit the info circle with the i in the middle
next to where it says streamer.

  • Select
“Forget the device” in the Bluetooth settings.

  • Turn
    the Bluetooth off.

  • Power
    down the I-Phone
  • On
the Streamer you need to delete the pairings. Steps below

  • Hold
the power button and the volume up button down until the solid blue light
turns to a solid green light then let go.

  • Turn
    the streamer off.
  • Go
    back to the I-phone

  • Turn
    on the I-Phone

  • Turn
    on the Bluetooth

  • Turn
    on the Streamer

  • Pair
the streamer to the I-phone again.

  • You will have to clear Bluetooth devices you may have, including
possibly the car Bluetooth. The i-phone 10 update corrupted some of the
    Bluetooth settings.

If the above set of actions doesn't work, you may need to also have your audiologist update the firmware on your Streamer. And one thing I found is that it was also necessary to restore the iPhone before repairing the cleaned-out and updated Streamer--a pain in the neck, but it fixed the problem. (If you go that route, be sure to back up all the content on your phone before you restore it.)

I upgraded to a 7 and performed the cleaning on my streamers, so far it is working better than before but it did start doing the dropping again about two weeks later after it was simultaneously connected to the TV connectline. So I cleared the streamer again and reconnected to my phone and so far everything is fine. I just use a separate streamer for the TV.

Thanks all for sharing! My iPhone 6S & Streamer Pro 1.3 firmware 3.3.1 do the exact same thing. What puzzles me is that if I'm streaming an audiobook from the Audible app via Bluetooth the connection is rock solid. Phone calls jump back & forth between the phone & my hearing aids like crazy. Going to the audiologist next week to see if there is a later firmware version, but I'm not optimistic. Thanks again!

It is possible to get a firm, stable Bluetooth connection between your iPhone and your Streamer by clearing out and rebuilding the BT connection. However, you will find that this prevents you from using the Oticon Streamer for much else via BT. But you can hear things through the Streamer phono lead. It defeats the object, I know, but at least you can have hands free and wire free phone calls using the Streamer, which is a boon. Under no circumstances buy an iPhone 7. The phono lead workaround would not be available because the iPhone 7 has no jack socket. This Streamer compatibility is a well-known long-lasting problem, widely reported. I have been through to Oticon but apparently Apple engineers and Oticon engineers cannot get it sorted. Nothing we customers can do now except hope and pray that they work it out for the next IOS release. I have postponed my iPhone upgrade plans by six months and made that plan more general in that I now think of it as a smartphone upgrade plan.

There is another consequence of using the Bluetooth Streamer everyone should be aware of. (I am using IoS 10.1.1 on iPhone 6 model MG4F2B/A) You will not get audible alerts for text messages while Bluetooth is switched on. The arrival of a text message will normally vibrate your phone and cause a notification sound which you can control in "Sounds" on your phone settings. The Streamer only works sensibly if you have Bluetooth switched on all the time. While Bluetooth is on the text message sound alerts will not emerge into your hearing aids and the phone itself will remain silent. Vibration is all you will get. This is very easy to miss when you are out and about. I can see no way to work around this, apart from trying to place the phone somewhere you feel confident of detecting vibration or checking your messages often. You can try selecting longer vibrate patterns such as "Rapid" and "Symphony" or create your own new vibration with a long duration, more likely to be noticed.

After many trials with iPhone 6, I upgraded to iPhone 7, went through iOS 10, and 10.1 ... no change ... still the same problems, including the alert problem, (but fortunately I got an Apple Watch (which I love) so get alerts on that.

But finally this week Apple updated to iOS 10.2 and have been able to have normal phone conversations and get alerts. I did do the reset of the streamer and re-pairing mentioned several times in previous replies and I think the might be solved with this update.
