appleTV keeps asking for appleID, password and authentication code circularly

I had the same issue. I solved it by buying a Roku and throwing my Apple TV in the trash.

I'm there. I have Chromecasts now - the ATVs are in the trash the day I deal with the Apple DRM'd movies.

My feedback to Apple:

just add the authentication code to your password before you submit it and it will work fine

You could let Apple know your concern by reporting it at this link: https://www.apple.com/feedback/appletv.html.

You enter the numbers right after your password, same box, but if it is the code you got at the start it may have timed out. Get you password in, do not hit enter, then request a new code. You should have time to enter the new code.

wally626 is right. Use Settings on your trusted device to request a code, only when you're ready to enter it. See this link: Get a verification code and sign in with two-factor authentication - Apple Support about halfway down.

Brilliant insight. Boy these apple engineers are something. Make you chose between apple pay and two factor authentication, then time you out when you can't put you password in picking 1 character at a time in 30 seconds.

You may have already tried this but... The only other tip I can offer to get out of the loop you seem to be in is this:

1) Try to sign out. It may not let you because you are technically not completely signed in. However, a part of the device may have you partially signed in. Which could keep CorsairVelo's method from working even if you do everything right.

2) If it won't let you sign out, then you may need to reset the appleTV so that it clears everything. This is in Settings>General>Reset>Reset All Settings. (If you really want to start from scratch with the AppleTV then do Settings>General>Reset>Restore -- this will bring you to factory default settings and install the latest updates that work on your model)

3) Then try using CorsairVelo's method to sign in.

I have the same issue, so no help from me. Just wanted to support your "nightmare" comment. Does Apple survey its customers before it releases these "innovations". And what has Apple innovated recently anyway? More usless iPhone bells and whistles?

The second generation AppleTV was designed long before iCloud supported Two Factor Authentication.

This method of supporting it arguably involved the least amount of work and allowed existing devices to keep working.

Newer AppleTV devices support 2FA directly.

It actually has worked for many, many people.

Back up a minute; the reason you need to append the code is the second generation AppleTV doesn't have the capability of asking for it.
