appleTV keeps asking for appleID, password and authentication code circularly

This has been driving me crazy for months. In the end, on my 2nd generation Apple TV, I found that the only way to resolve the issue was to sign out, then sign back in. This action prompted me for the second stage verification code. I hadn't been asked prior to signing out.

I've just had the same problem and my password is long and it would time out before entry. So this is how I got around it. Login with apple id and password. Apple TV will send a text stating someone or a device is trying to log into your account allow or disallow. Don't hit the allow button until you have entered your password, once done add the verification code to the end of your password. The 30-second timer starts when the allow button is pressed. Hope this helps.

Don’t give up.

Long character combinations are not a problem w 30 second delay.

-Type in an email or word pad or elsewhere your password.

-Copy the password.

-Request a new number.

-Immediately paste your password and then enter your given verification code. Consecutively - do not leave a space before your verification code, Should be adequate time.

-Enter.

-done. Should have triggered it correctly and you should be in.

I think what I did a week ago was to first type in my password without pasting, it is long (9 characters), but I can type it in easily, then requested code etc. It worked for me.

It should work for you if you paste yours that is very long. Good luck.

This procedure from William Kurcharski, and others, sounds insane, but actually worked!

1. From an iPhone or iPad, go into "Settings" => click on the top bar with your name and "Apple ID, iCloud, iTunes & App Store".
2. While still on iPhone or iPad, tap on "Password & Security", then tap on "Get Verification Code", LEAVE the supplied verification code visible.
3. Go to the iTunes login on your AppleTV settings and start logging in.
4. When it asks for your password, enter your password and add the verification code to the end of your password (no spaces: If your code is 123456 and your password is “ABC” you would enter “ABC123456”) BUT DO NOT HIT SUBMIT YET !!!
5. Go back to your iPhone/iPad and tap on "OK" on the verification code to make it go away.
6. Now go back to your AppleTV and submit the password.

This worked for me with my 2nd gen apple tv.

I put in the password... got the verification code then had to do it again adding the code to the end of the password.

Adding the 6 digits at the end of your password worked for Apple TV version 1.

so....

sign in

enter password

get 6 digit auth code

enter password again with 6 digits at the end

I found a nice work around for the Apple TV (2nd Generation). If you have an iPhone or iPad, just download the Apple TV remote app. Once you download it and link it to your Apple TV, you are good to go. The phone will allow you to authenticate without any issues.

Brilliant! Yes - after three failed attempts, THIS solution works. As stated above - enter your password once, then you get a pop up on your phone to authenticate...wait until you've entered your password a second time on the AppleTV (don't submit yet), then authenticate and immediately follow your password with the code.

Hi Eagle_Mtl. You are correct. 2-factor authentication does not work on Apple TV 1 (silver module). Since your device is no longer being maintained, it's unlikely that Apple will find and deploy a solution, unfortunately.

Hi markfromst.albert. When I say STOP, i actually mean stop. You enter the last letter of the password and stop. You do not send the password. Instead, you request a code from your trusted device, and add it to to end of the password, still waiting to be completed. Then you send the completed password.

Yes this solved the problem. Unfortunately Apple TV doesnt indicate there is a time limit so i tried many times correctly (password + six digit code together) but of course took too long. If all you have to do is add the six digits then you can do it within ghe time allowed.

I have a lengthy password so it was impossible to enter the password and the code before the code timed out (30 seconds). I had to have my password already entered, “Get Verification Code” on my iPhone and entered the six digits within 30 seconds. It gets a little bit tricky.

Do you have two factor authentication on? I had the same issue which was resolved with disabling the authentication option.

You have to type in your two factor code right after you enter your password - like in the same field. That's how I got it to work.

Accounts will be able to login with 2FA using the “append code to the password” technique described in other posts.
