appleTV keeps asking for appleID, password and authentication code circularly

after updating my iPhone I was asked to use the double authentication code, I had no idea of what kind of nightmare this is. I spent hours going from a device to another checking passwords and authentication codes. The last one is the Apple TV, after this stupid innovation my appleTV keeps asking for my AppleID, password and authentication code, and than goes back to the request for the appleID. Basically my AppleTV is useless. how can I eliminate the stupid authentication code, that makes all my devices basically inaccessible?

I found a nice work around for the Apple TV (2nd Generation). If you have an iPhone or iPad, just download the Apple TV remote app. Once you download it and link it to your Apple TV, you are good to go. The phone will allow you to authenticate without any issues.

For users of Apple TV Two

go through the ID and password screens on the Apple TV

when the screen asks for verification, ignore the message on your other device

Re-enter ID and password but DO NOT SUBMIT yet

go to Settings/your name at the top/Password and Security on the other device

press 'get verification code,

Enter six digit number af password on Apple TV and Submit (do not delay you have about 30 seconds)

Mine now works finally!!!

Yes. this solution worked for me on ATV Gen 2. Used another phone with the Apple TV remote app to enter in appleID and password. Clicked on Verification Code on my preferred phone number/device. Then instantly entered verification code after password on the remote phone. This worked great without having to turn off 2 factor authentication.

I had this login issue when I changed my password to something difficult.

None of the other solutions worked for me. I was stuck in a continuous loop of frustration until I tried this route.

On the home page of your ATV, do the following:

Settings

iTunes Store

Apple IDs

Sign Out you Apple ID

Add New Apple ID

Input your login and new password. You will still be prompted to put the verification code but this route didn't loop me in an endless cycle. It worked for all of my ATV's 1, 2 & 3.

Hope this works for you. Good luck.

Well, this is just too much of a hassle for me. I spent nearly 30mins in this stupid loop just to try and watch a movie last night. My Roku and Amazon work just fine. I need the stupid 2 factor authentication - which I find a horrible bother rather than a security feature - to be able to synch my business and personal calendars. So it's either I turn it on and my work/life balance is cool and I don't buy anymore movies from Apple - or I turn it off, have no idea when all my appointments for work and personal are but have movies. My only choice for both (without buying a new device) is sticking with my ROKU and using Amazon to buy movies. I wish Apple would find another way.

MatsA got it right - solved my issue. Enter password; do NOT hit "submit;" request a code using another device (phone for me...settings; tap your name; password&security; Get Verification Code link at the bottom); attach the generated code to the end of your password; hit "submit." Done. This worked perfectly but ticked me off a bit: how would anyone know to do that without searching for and finding an answer on the Internet. I am thankful to those who posted here and hope this helps another frustrated Apple customer. (Why would the code not work in the provided boxes and have to go on the password line? Crazy!)

Exactly. With all due respect to those that have replied to me I am having the same problem. I have tried everything and adding a number to the end of the password field ( either I tunes out Apple ID) gets a very definite invalid ID or password? I have tried with two factor authentication off as well same result. There are two sign in's on the TV remember one for the ID and the other for the I tunes. Is there anything significant I have missed on this perhaps.

Good news I have after several weeks got it to work. There is really ONLY one way and I mean ONE way. Thanks for all the suggestions though . First like it or not you HAVE to have two factor authentication you don't have any choice. Two you have to reset your Apple TV from scratch . Three you have to set up manually. Sorry but this is the one and only way to do it. I don't like two factor authentication consider a normal TV, you want to change channels you have to go to the kitchen. And turn on your toaster to get permission, or maybe your refrigerator. Rediculous. Or you don't know whether you have to wear a tie or a long sleeve shirt or short sleeve one. if these were provided by Apple you would have to take them all with you as to change shirts you would have to ask permission from your tie or maybe your other shirt. In the old days, well you just wore them and I dont see the future of TV being that created by Apple. They could do better , better in thinking up a security solution. An Apple TV is not a portable device really it needs to be connected to a TV! So what's the point of all this? It took too long far too long to get this solution, and in the process I spend hours. No not the futur of TV a nightmare on TV!

It seems a common problem and with this type of device and I for one cannot understand it. Its supposed to be a TV not mobile device one of the least mobile devices in the Apple Range!

I have heard about these self-generated passwords and I have tried it several times but always get it rejected!

I reset the whole TV and removed streaming from security. Now I only get asked once or twice. Never like before when my elderly Mum could happily watch my TV and selection of comedy(!) all evening, poor Mum she really cannot handle Password requests and two factor authentication well yes Apple this is really a great shame some customers really cannot handle this. She was a fan not having to stand up and insert DVD's like before, but not any more !
