Connecting Square Printer with Airport Extreme and Hotspot

Hi,

My family has a small pizza joint and I am looking to move our POS system to Square. We do not have WiFi, so I was wondering if there is a work around to use the personal hotspot feature, configure the AX to "Join a wireless network", and then connect the printer to the back of the AX to print receipts and also use the cash register. This is the POS kit from Square...

Perhaps getting WiFi would be the best solution, but I just wanted to see if this is possible. I have connected the AX to the personal hotspot, but cannot get the printer to be visible to setup within the Square dashboard app.

Any suggestion is highly appreciated.

Thank you!

Thanks for all the screenshots.. that really helps.

Forgive my occasional brain fizzes.. getting old.

The wireless client should not be connected to the Express at all.. sorry.. it is not that it has the wrong IP.. that took me off the track.. wireless clients are not even possible if the Express is setup correctly..

So working forward.. your setup from Imgur collection seems fine.. except the printer is failing to show up.. That suggests to me the setup of the Express is still wrong..

But I need you to test it. Please plug a computer into express by ethernet.. turn off its wireless.. do you get an IP address?? It should be 192.168.0.x

From the laptop if it does connect ping out to the internet and see if you have a full connection.. if so the issue is the printer is not set to dhcp. Or is set wrongly.. you need to fix that at the printer.

In the Imgur collection you made a statement. I need you to clarify.

I plugged the ethernet into my router at home and it works. Did all trouble shooting with iPad. Nothing will print and you get an error message.

That means plugged into your home router the printer works.. or it means it doesn't work even though the printer shows up??

Sorry I am needing a bit clearer statement.

Yes, it looks like it is showing that IP with the ethernet plugged into the Macbook. I was able to connect to apple.com and other websites.

What I mean is that I have a Time Capsule already set up at home that we use. I simply plugged in the printer to the LAN port on the Time Capsule and connected the iPad to it. Tested it out and it works.

Trouble shooting with iPad: I just mean I turned off Wifi, restart iPad, even restore...

Thanks for all your help.

Is the printer set to dhcp for IP address?

When you plug printer into your home TC router what IP does it get??

Working with wireless hotspots is always a massive pain .. I hate not have ethernet.. ie reliable network connections to work from. Wireless bridging is always going to be less reliable.. Do you have any other routers around .. ??

I am in Melbourne so if you are local I am happy to help more directly.. My email is open in the profile.. just roll your mouse over my name...
