I can't boot into windows after having resized my mac partition
any help would be greatly appreciated
diskutil list
sudo fdisk /dev/disk0
sudo gpt -vv -r show /dev/disk0
MacBook Pro, OS X El Capitan (10.11.4)
Apple Event: May 7th at 7 am PT
i can see the windows partition in Finder and in the Startup disk section of System preferences. when i try booting into it it says "No bootable device -- insert boot disk and press any key". i do not have the option to boot into windows when holding the alt key as the computer starts up
Can you post output of the Gpt command? There is no MBR present yet. We need to create one.
i already followed the rest of the steps you posted on the other threads you linked. i can now choose windows when holding the alt key whilst starting up the computer but it fails to boot. i'm presented with a black screen with a blinking white line at the top left of the screen. that goes on forever. did i do something wrong?
Can you post the output of
sudo gpt -vv -r show /dev/disk0
sudo fdisk /dev/disk0
any idea why it's not working?
i gave up. i urgently have to use windows so i backed up the files i needed and removed the partition via Boot Camp Assistant. i'll now proceed to install it again from scratch. thank you so much for your help
You needed Startup Repair, but if you have started over again, please remember to back up OS X, Windows and create a Windows System Restore point.
i tried performing a startup repair both manually using the command prompt and automatically with windows' startup repair tool but nothing seemed to fix the problem. i was always presented with the same black screen with the infinitely blinkig white line at the top left of the screen
Usually an SMC/NVRAM Reset can address some of the underlying issues.
