Apple TV - There was a problem connecting to your network (-3906)

Product name: Apple TV (3rd Gen) Model A1469

Version number of the Apple TV Software: 7.2.1 (8011)

The problem: I am now getting an error when I turn the Apple TV on. "There was a problem connecting to your network (-3906)". So I can't get WiFi to the device. It had been working perfectly and is not that old. I've moved house recently and have no idea about where the receipt is.

Details about what seems to cause it: I have no idea.

Troubleshooting steps you've already tried: I have removed the Apple TV and replaced it with another one at the same location and it works fine. I have plugged in an Ethernet cable and it fi dos the Internet without problem. I've restarted the device. I've reset it to factory settings. I've tried it where the other Apple TV was working. I've removed the encryption from my Airport Express and tried to reconnect. None of these steps have fixed it.

I am sure this has happened to me before with an Apple TV and I just replaced it. But I'm not keen on replacing them every year or so, even though our family uses them a lot.

I see this has been an issue for other Apple TV users too but it doesn't seem to be fixed.

We can take some lessons from this:

If it's broke, fix it. Don't just accept that it's busted.

When you have trouble with WiFi, don't hide your configuration. Three AirPort Express, oh my. I hope they're on different channels, etc.

When you can see the WiFi, but the connection is rejected, it's probably not the antenna, and it is likely the router.

You are completely and utterly wrong I'm afraid.

Sometimes, like my TV's WiFi aerial, things are broken and need to be replaced. I could see the WiFi network on my TV but the antenna was the issue. It was replaced for free. These things happen.

I'm not sure how you got the impression I hid the configuration from myself. I can't see how that's possible nor how it is relevant to my issue.

Three AirPort Express is what you call extending a wireless network over my monstrous house and block. They are all connected to ethernet and provide me with a magnificent fast WiFi network. Regarding your network configuration, you kept us in the dark about your extended and powerful configuration, while seeking help with a WiFi connection problem blamed on a broken ATV. This caused us to waste your time searching blind alleys, while the obvious solution was to check the router configuration(s). The problem of router rejecting connection has been posted in numerous discussions on this topic, but there have also been several recent instances of ATV dropping WiFi connections for unexplained causes, so there was some confusion about the nature of your problem.

I am glad you fixed it. Maybe your experience will help others with these strange error numbers.
