i bought the computer in 2014 so yosemeti was installed when i got it then i upgraded to el capitan.

yesterday i bought a sound card from mackie a Onyx Blackbird. the thing is that last known OS X to work with this sound card was Mountain lion. They have stopped producing this model and mackie don't care to update drivers so i can use it on el capitan. thats why i want to start my computer in mountain lion from a usb stick while still have my El capitan untouched thats all i wanted to do

That machine can run Mountain Lion just fine. The problem is that even if you buy Mountain Lion, the incredibly annoying App Store is probably going to refuse to let you download it because you are running a later OS. It doesn't allow for the possibility of someone having a need to download an earlier OS in order to install it on another drive or partition. Maybe someone here knows of a way for you to get around that. If you can get Mountain Lion, I'd suggest installing it on an external hard drive rather than a USB stick.
