Hey guys, I've got a Mac Mini mid 2011 here and it's running OSX Yosemite, but it won't boot so I thought I'd try to fix the problem by upgrading to El Capitan. However, when I boot into "Internet Recovery" using "Cmd+R" I only have the option to install OSX Lion.
How can I install El Capitan from the "Internet Recovery?"
Please help me!

Internet Recovery only allows you to install the OS that came on your computer when you bought it. Your Mac Mini came with Lion when you bought it, and that's what Internet Recovery will install. In order to install El Capitan, you need to download and install it from the Mac App Store. You can reinstall Yosemite by pressing Command + R at startup before the chime, then selecting the option to reinstall the OS you're already running when you're at the Disk Utility screen. Once you do that, you can boot normally and open the Mac App Store to upgrade to El Capitan.

Did you try to boot into safe boot. Hold shift key during startup. Does it boot? If it does try to restart and see what happens. Other options are boot into recovery command + r run disk utility to see if that helps or reinstall OS. If none of that helps you could always reinstall lion via internet recovery and then upgrade to 10.11

Installing a new OS will not fix the underlying problems. They will likely get worse.
The problems are not caused by the OS and installing another one over the top of the problems will not remove the problems.
However, if you've erased the drive as it sounds like you have, then you will have removed any problem software. If it is a hardware problem, then you'll still have to resolve that after installing whatever you do.
On an erased drive, Internet Recovery will install the original shipping OS. You'll need to then upgrade to El Capitan.
