Creating a new Apple ID and transferring of data and settings to a new iPhone

If I share an Apple ID with someone else, what are the ramifications of creating and using a new Apple ID and will I lose any iPhone settings or data if I use the new Apple ID I have created?

I also want to move all my data and settings from my current iPhone 4 to an iPhone 5 but not entirely sure how to do this as I share my Apple ID with my father and want all my data and settings correctly transferred to the new phone. Please help.

1. What exactly is backed up to iCloud or to iTunes in terms of data?

2. If I backup to iCloud or to iTunes are both types of backups exactly the same in terms of what is backed up?
