The problem is the update, and although Apple fails to acknowledge the update failure, if you Google "iPad update 9.3.2" you'll see numerous entries regarding this royal update screw up. Some have had had their iPads incapacitated and others like myself have been merely unable to upgrade: "You are not connected to the Internet" -- huh?. Some have received the message to connect to iTunes and others received the Error 56 message. This is an Apple update failure, which impacts some but not all iPads - mostly the iPad Pro 9.7 inch.
The update problem is one thing, but the bungling way that Apple is handling it is completely incompetent. Why not have a bold ,message on the Web site: "Warning - the 9.3.2 update has bugs. Do not attempt to update now?" Or what about sending an email message to all registered owners? That should be simple enough since email addresses are recorded during registration. Or what about sending an Alert message to all tech support people so when you call, you aren't wasting unnecessary time - lots of it - trouble shooting an issue that cannot be resolved. Better still, when you go to the Apple Website and input that you have a problem with updates, it seems easy enough to generate a message that explains the situation. Apple failed to do that. Not only is virtually no information available directly from Apple, the tech support staff is equally blind to the current situation. That's why you'll end up doing tech support troubleshooting handstands if you call.
I called tech support and spent 10 minutes with a complete fool who wanted me to check my memory but couldn't tell me where to look (Settings, General/About). "Let me place you on hold while I check that." Ten minutes later, I asked for a senior tech who had been clearly housed in a padded cell for his adult life. After I explained the problem, and I received an inexcusably rude reply with the suggestion that I should have checked the Web beyond the Apple site, I hung up..
Sure, updates fail, hardware fails, people make mistakes, but this takes the cake when it comes to handling a situation. Apple support on this is about inept as it gets. Solution: DO NOT UPDATE. That's not a great help to all those who attempted to upgrade and wound up being screwed by Apple.
