The various reset play scripts set the playcounts back to zero. See Move your iTunes library to a new computer for the correct way to move your library from one computer to another. Do it right and all ratings, play counts, playlists and so on come too. iTunes only add tracks to the purchased list when you first purchase them on a given computer or device, however you should be able to manually add other tracks as you please.

Ok, I figured it out. I think the issue was that I was looking at top 25 most played rather than a playlist that could be updated all at once.
There's one unrelated problem I need some help with. The reason I needed to reset all these plays in the first place was that I got a new computer, and I wanted my plays consistant with how I had them, and it looks like the only way to get them how I want was to reset all plays. In the time I was without a computer, I purchased half a dozen or so new songs. For some reason, when I synced my phone, they did not transfer to my computer, even though they were downloaded to my phone. It seems there used to be a quick way to download your purchased items to your computer, but I don't seem to have that in the latest iTunes.

That's what I did, and when I powered it up on the new computer, the library was exactly how I left it on my old computer. That wasn't the issue, the issue was that in the interim, I synced my phone to my old desktop, so that computer got an updated library as well. Complicating matters was that my phone was experiencing a serious lack of storage, prompting me to remove some of the downloads from my phone. When synced, this kind of messed up my purchased playlist, and for some reason the play count on some of the new items had been reset. So, I decided to just reset everything. Now however, my purchased playlist appears to be locked, as when I right-click a song and choose add to playlist, Purchased is not one of the items listed. Could you help me figure out why that would be and help me fix that?

I don't know what exactly you're talking about. If by the playlist sidebar you mean the sidebar that shows all your playlists, that's already showing. However, when I right click to add a song to a playlist, all my other playlists show but not Purchased. Why? Also, when I edit the playlist from my phone, I do not have the option to add music either. What's going on here and how do I fix it?

I have been able to reset plays but you have to do song by song, You have click on the three dots to the right of the song, choose "get info" and the second to the last data item is the play count with a "reset" button to the right. The play counter will go to zero if you click "reset". Manual but it'll get the job done.....eventually 🙂
