iPad Pro 9.7 Bricked after 9.3.2

Tried to install 9.3.2 on a new (1 month old) iPad Pro.


Update hangs forever.


Then it gives instruction to connect cable to itunes.


iTunes gives message to restore then download update, then just dies.


Is there not some sort of quality control of updates at Apple?


Bricking new hardware is not something that should ever happen.


My new policy,


Never install an update until 3 weeks after release and a through search for problems


Bloody annoying

I read about this last night, hard to believe after all the issues with Activation, Safari Links, and now iPad Pros. 😟

There seems to be no solution at the moment as a restore or a recovery mode do not fix.

Going back to the Apple store is not the solution to this kind of problem.

Then again if you have all the answers I guess that is the smart and simple response.

Understand sport.


Regardless of where the problem resides, get Apple involved. If that means going to the store, letting the Apple staff do the update, letting them deal with the problem, that is how is should be. Does not matter if it is hardware or software.


That may not be all the answers, but it is an answer that will produce results which is the object of getting an answer.


Apple created the issue, let Apple solve the issue. Use the warranty.

One problem with your "solution: is not everyone lives next door to an Apple Store.

iPad Pro's can be purchased via Mail Order regardless of proximity to an Apple Store.

I am currently in Dubuque IA with the closest stores being Madison WI or Rockford IL.

Not exactly a drive to the next town.

Apple should develop a repair/diagnose method not dependent on having to an Apple

Store and not taking weeks for turnaround.

Fedex Overnight to an Apple facility at Apple's expense?

I had exactly the same thing happen to my ipad air. After the 9.3.2 upgrade my screen went black. I called support, they talked me through some possible cures which did not work, told me to go to my Apple store which I did. Support said that they would repair/replace my ipad at no cost to me because my problem was caused by their update. When I went to the Apple store 2 days later, no one could find a record of my Case ID #, which support gave me, in spite of the fact that I could show them my emails from Apple support. This required another call to support at the Apple store. Needless to say, support did have a record of my Case ID #, and finally gave the store permission to help me. My ipad was 1.5 years old and no longer under warranty. After 4 hours of fighting with the Apple store employees, waiting and waiting and waiting, they finally agreed to replace my ipad. The tech who finally helped us with a replacement made a point of stating that the problem was NOT their update? If this was the case, why did my ipad work perfectly before the update, and then seemed to normally upload the update, but immediately after the update show only a black screen. Why are there so many posts on this forum regarding the "bricking" of their ipads after the update? The good news is that I did leave the Apple store with a new ipad air after only 4 hours of arguing with 3 different techs, the tech manager, Apple support, and an Apple support supervisor. My question to Apple is, would Steve Jobs have allowed this to happen to a customer?

And they do. Apple has an an overnight service feature, where you initiate a Service request, they ship you a box overnight, and you pack the device in the box, ship it back to them, and they'll ship you a replacement overnight also.


A few days is all it takes.
